Baclayon Church Bohol Tour. Baclayon is known for its historic Catholic church, declared a National Cultural Treasure in 1995 because it is considered the best preserved of its kind in the region. Its first structure was built in 1595, but the current building is from 1724 and is of Spanish Colonial architecture. The church includes a small museum, with relics dating back to the early 16th century, and adjoining 21-metre (69 ft) high bell tower. Nearby are centuries-old stone buildings like the hermita, and elementary school, as well as the historic public marketplace, a Spanish-era building with giant stone columns supporting the roof. On October 15, 2013, the church and bell tower were severely damaged by a massive 7.2 magnitude earthquake.

Considered as one of the oldest church in the Philippines, Baclayon Church ( Church of the our lady of the immaculate concepcion) is a popular tourist spot when you visit Bohol, also it was being run by the Jesuits. I just wish the government would give more budget to national treasures / landmarks like this for the restoration and maintenance.

Today we flew to Bohol from Manila. It was great to get out of the city again and we were very impressed with Bohol. Tagbilaran is a really cool city and there was an amazing sunset. Baclayon Church, is a Roman Catholic Church in the municipality of Baclayon, Bohol, Philippines within the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tagbilaran.
One of the largest earthquakes to hit Bohol struck the island at 8:12 AM on October 15, 2013. Centuries-old churches in Bohol, including Baclayon Church. In 2017, Baclayon Church was completely restored. The church was reopened to the public on February 27, 2018.

Baclayon Church and tower, Baclayon, Bohol, Philippines
The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Baclayon is considered to be one of the oldest churches in the Philippines. It is one of the best persevered Jesuit built churches in the region, although in the 19th century, the Augustinian Recollects added a modern facade and a number of stone buildings that now surround the church.
The construction is off coral stone taken and cut into square blocks from the Bohol sea and used the white of a million eggs as to cement them together. The current building was completed in 1727. The church obtained a large bell in 1835. In the Baclayon church is a dungeon, which was used to punish natives who violated the rules of the Roman Catholic church, which is still there but no access is allowed to this area.
