Badshahi Ashurkhana - Hyderabad
It is an important Islamic holy and religious place located near Charminar, constructed by Sultan Quli Qutb Shah in the year 1594 A.D. in order to keep the Alams or banners of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad, Imam Alu. It is one of the earliest buildings in Hyderabad and considered to be among the oldest Imambaras in India. Timber colonnades in facade were the latest additions made during the period of 2nd Nizam in 1802 A.D.
This building is famous for the enamel tiled mosaics in Persian style which are comparable to those in Lahore and Multan (Pakistan). The artistic tile work on the walls was completed in the guardant regime of Abdullah Qutub Shah. The building is a unique model of Islamic Calligraphy and Art. The other religious structures located in the premises are Naubath Khana, Niyaz Khana, Abdar Khana in the Court Yard.

The Badshahi Ashoorkhana of Hyderabad is as old as the city itself. In fact, it was built when the Charminar was built, after which the city was built and freed.
Abdul, and his family have been its caretakers for over 400 years! And Abdul is as interesting a character as the Iranian inlay work in the Ashoorkhana itself.
Who knew there was such beauty in a place of mourning!

Badshahi beam of Ashoorkhana collapses
Despite enough funds at its disposal, the Archaeology Department is doing little for the restoration work of the Ashoorkhana whose condition becomes risky in the rainy season.
Ashoorkhana: The Asaf Jah’s patronized the Ashoorkhana which was built in 1594. It is located at Madina Crossroad. However, it fell on bad days after the Waqf board took control.
The alams, as well as the building, are important from religious, social, cultural, historical and heritage points of view. Safety of the historic alams is also threatened.
