WATERFALLS // Iceland, Glymur, Kirkjufellfoss, Baejarfoss

Watch us travel from the tallest waterfall in Iceland, Glymur, all the way to Kirkjufellfoss for some epic views. Later that night, we park our van and crash at the campsite for Tradir Guesthouse, our favorite camping spot in all of Iceland, with views of the ocean, the cliffs as well as Snaefellsnesjokull (the gateway to hell)!

Later, we journey to Baejarfoss for a quick hike up to the top of the waterfall. We ended our day at Mount Kirkjufell where we enjoyed a pot of chili in our Happy Campers van!

Iceland Road Trip, April 2016, Day6

Day 6 of our Epic 1895 Mile Road Trip around Iceland's Route 1 and Beyond, Starting from our Overnight in Dynjandi back down Route 60 to Snaefellsnes Peninsula to Helgafell, Kirkjurfellsfoss, Olafsvik, Baejarfoss, Saxholl Crater, Anarstapi and road side camp NW of Borgarnes

Lóndrangar - Pillars of Rock on Snæfellsnes peninsula in Iceland

Lóndrangar are pillars of rocks on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. A truly remarkable place.

Cette cascade, d'une cinquantaine de mètres de hauteur, est située à côté de l'hôpital de la petite ville d'Ólafsvík en Islande.  Un petit sentier mène au pied de celle-ci.  L'accès est très facile.

Djúpalón & Dritvík Beaches - Iceland

Le sentier qui mène à la plage de Djúpalón en Islande est situé dans un environnement plutôt lugubre.  Les rochers ont vraiment des formes particulières!

Tout juste avant d'arriver à cette longue plage de sable noir, de grosses roches attirent notre attention.  Il s'agit en fait de pierres étalons qui servaient à mesurer les capacités des jeunes matelots (23 kg:  minable, 54 kg:  demi-portion, 100 kg:  demi-fort et 154 km:  très fort).

Les matelots qui n'étaient pas capables de soulever la seconde pierre (demi-portion) n'étaient pas autorisés à faire partie de l'équipage du navire car ils étaient considérés trop faibles pour affronter les océans.

Mon conjoint a tenté de lever ces grosses roches.  Je ne vous révèle pas tout de suite le résultat.  Regardez plutôt la vidéo.  :-)

On peut également observer plusieurs débris d'un chalutier anglais échoué sur cette plage en 1947.

Lors de notre visite, la mer était totalement déchaînée.  Les puissantes vagues déferlaient sur les rochers avoisinants.  Il ne fallait pas trop s'aventurer à proximité du bord de l'eau.  Il est arrivé à quelques reprises que les vagues prennent les gens par surprise.  Ils devaient courir pour échapper à la vague.

La plage de Dritvik est située à 1 km de la plage de Djúpalón.  Un sentier relie les deux plages.  Face à la mer, ce sentier est situé à la droite de la plage de Djúpalón.  Il débute au niveau de la plage et continue vers le haut de la falaise.
