27 Bikes in Bagan, Day 4, Myanmar (Burma)
We Said Go Travel October 13, 2012
With our bikes from New Park Hotel, we explored many temples including:
Gu-byauk-gyi (wet-kyin) with incredible paintings but you cannot take photos or video for preservation reasons.
Gu-byauk-nge: Due to its smaller size, you can see all three of the four seated Buddhas at once. It has lovely celling paintings.
Alo-pyi
Ywe-haung-gyi
Ananda
That-byin-nyu
Shwe-gu-gyi—in this temple we went up to a higher level and could see the old city and a literal sea of stupas. There are thousands of stupas of all shapes and sizes. The building occurred over two hundred years and was at the same time that the Khmer were building Angkor Wat in Siem Reap.
For lunch we stopped at Sarabha for cold water, chicken with cashew nuts and vegetable curry. The temple by Be nice to Animals restaurant is a yellow one with a mirror disco Buddha. I think it is either Min-o-chan-thar, or Tsu-taung-pyi.
At Ananda Paya there is restoration and reconstruction inside and out. We met part of the team from India. There are six restoration workers in Bagan for eight months working to restore the paintings. We were told it is a seven or eight year project with $11million dollars being spent by the Indian government. The four large standing Buddhas at Ananada are truly gigantic.
For sunset, we biked to near Buledi Temple. People used to climb Buledi but now that is not allowed any more. When George was in Bagan over ten years ago, you could climb nearly all the temples. Many are now closed to preserve the ancient wonders. The colors of the sunset highlighted the brick work on the surrounding temples. A stunning display of nature and buildings constructed for reverence.

Inle Lake Day Trip to Pindaya Caves
Today is day 4 for us in Inle Lake and we take a day trip to the Pindaya Caves. It is about 64KM from our hotel in Nyaungshwe and the drive takes around 1.5 hours. We book a taxi to take us there which cost 50,000 Kyat.
The cave is set in a limestone hill and there are actually 3 caves in the area but only 1 is open to the public. The cave is around 150 meters long and contains around 8,000 - 9,000 Buddha images and statues. While some of the older statues and images date back to the 1700’s, the number of images is actually still growing today because people are still donating and adding more.
The cave is huge and incredibly impressive. Every small corner of the cave is filled with Buddha images up to the ceiling. We also happen to be here during the time of a festival in a nearby town so it is completely packed with local people who are in town to celebrate.
After our visit to the caves, we make our way back to Nyaungshwe as we have another overnight bus to catch tonight to Bagan. The bus journey begins at 8PM and we arrive in Bagan around 3 in the morning.
We get a cab to our hotel and while we cannot get checked in right away, the hotel sets us up with some pillows in the lobby and we get some much needed sleep until around 9AM when we can get checked in to our room.
We are very excited to be here and explore Bagan over the next few days!

14 Hsipaw Little Bagan Myanmar (Burma)
We Said Go Travel Little Bagan in Hsipaw, Myanmar (Burma) October 4, 2012
Wandering around Hsipaw and out to Little Bagan, we saw rice fields, water buffalo and smiling friendly faces. I enjoyed the dirt track and seeing the stupas. Many children said, Mingla-ba or Hello to us. Being in the monastery where the young monks were chanting and studying was a highlight of the day. It was a very tranquil wander in a beautiful area. The only negative is we were told there was no overnight trekking in the area as the Army was engaged in battle with some Shan tribes. We had thought that this area had peaceful relations now and were surprised to learn of the fighting.

INTRODUCTION TO BAGAN | MYANMAR TRAVEL VLOG
CHECK OUT THE WEBSITE:
After an overnight bus from Yangon I get to Bagan and start exploring some of the temples. The best way to get around is hiring an Electric bike which is more like a moped, so for 7000 Kyat ($4) for 2 days I hire the bike and start exploring all the magnificent temples around Bagan, finally ending at the most popular temple for sunset, which offers great views but is far too crowded and definitely not the best spot for sunset!

First Trip To Bagan, Mandalay MYANMAR
Myanmar Boat Tour | How you travel from Mandalay to Bagan
Myanmar Boat tour | In this very short 2min travel video, we want to show you how to travel in Myanmar by boat and what you can expect. We made a boat tour from Mandalay to Bagan over the Irrawaddy river and had probably the best possible start into our Myanmar trip. Bellow we share some descriptions, how you travel from Mandalay to Bagan.
Start Boat tour from Mandalay Bagan
Our day has started at 05:15. It was still dark outside and our taxi to our boat was coming soon. Departure time of the boat was 06:30 but you have to be there a half hour. Our Hotel has organized everything for transport to the pier and everything worked well. Like an exact Suisse watch, we started at 06:30 our boat tour from Mandalay to Bagan. In the first 20-30min, the sky has turned from dark grey to an intensive red colour. What an incredible experience to see this sunrise with a delicious breakfast on the boat.
Pagodas in pure red light
After breakfast on the right-hand side of the boat, there were plenty of pagodas and buddas on the hills, which looked amazing. We were speechless and make probably hundreds of photos...
Visit of a local Village
We made a short stop (ca. 1 hour) in a small village. They are producing hats with very old machines. We also had the opportunity to buy some of those hats.
Many boats from Mandalay to Bagan
The Irrawaddy River felt like the main road for cars in a bigger city. The locals are using the boats for the most things of transportation: food, resources, people. Also, the river delivers water for their farms, people are washing their clothes or taking a bad.
Arrived in Bagan
Bagan: the place which has thousands of Pagodas. We are excited to explore the area in the next days. Ah and by the way: Don't be surprised, when you arrive in Bagan and small kids try to sell you something. Bagan is super crowded from tourists and most of the income comes from this industry. So good opportunity for the locals to sell something when people like us are coming from Mandalay to Bagan. But as ever: smile, say no thank you and walk to the taxi station
Why you shouldn't miss a boat tour
In our point of view was this trip a super start to see some Myanmar culture and to get a first impression of the country. You can relax, make photos and videos, see the local culture and just enjoy the beautiful sunrise.
Tour Operator
We have booked the boat tour with Alliance Myanmar River Cruise Co.Ltd, which you can book easily here through an Online Travel Agent like Viator and is also a fair price.
Bagan, Myanmar - Shwezigon Pagoda, Gubyaukgyi, Ananda Temple, Dhamayangvi, Pyat Tad Gvi
Day 2 of Khoo's 8 Days Tour of Mynamar - Bagan Archeological Area, over 2,300 stupas
Rokheng Mandalay And Bagan Tour HD ( 04th.June,2013 )
As our usual travel plan, this time around Paul Lim, Jack Ong and me (Robert Kheng) decided to visit these ancient city of Mandalay and Bagan where there are more than 2,000 temples and pagodas are located. We started by driving from Alor Setar to Hatyai
International Airport for the Airasia flight to Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok. On next day
we depart to Mandalay where our adventures begin.
Ep13: MYANMAR - Yangon, Bagan, Inle Lake, Mandalay, Goteik Viaduct
MYANMAR - Yangon, Bagan, Inle Lake, Mandalay, Goteik Viaduct
Most of the Myanmar borders are conflict zones, so traveling the country was restricted to making it to Yangon, and traveling up the center of the country.
We had three thrilling weeks with the Burmese people, who were so quick with a smile but not inclined to care for any Western sensibilities, which was awesome. Crossing a Yangon street was a harrowing experience. Betel leaves are a popular thing to chew, and spitting was second nature. Old ladies and teenagers alike chew and spit, and the red stained concrete was everywhere.
The landscape, especially Bagan, was dotted with countless temples, many a thousand or so years old. Apparently, it was believed that a lifetime of sin could be erased if only you built a pagoda... so of course it was quite a popular thing to do. The result is spectacular.
The atmosphere was often saturated with street dust and smoke from daily burnings, and while our lungs suffered, it created wonderfully hazy sunsets. The county glowed orange-gold in the twilight hours.

Myanmar Adventure part 1: 'SUNSET IN BAGAN'
The best place to watch the sun set in Bagan (according to Coco)
After arriving in Mandalay at night, we set off for Bagan early the net morning and arrived there after a gruelling 7 hour journey.
We had enough time to explore the temple region of Old Bagan and find a spot to watch the sunset. Thanks to a friendly local called Coco, we were able to find a great place to watch the sun go down, although the view was obstructed by the haze.
Next day, we would watch the sunrise and the hot air balloons over Bagan...

BAGAN - A SUNNY DAY
This video sharing beautiful scenes of 4 different payas (Buddhist temples) in Bagan including Dhammayangyi (Bagan's largest temple) , Mahabodhi , Gawdawpalin (the second highest temple in Bagan) & Shwezigon (gold plated paya in 1090). This video features the sweet voice of Myanmar female singer, Ni Ni Khin Zaw in the song Nin Lo At Khae Yin.
After murdering his father (King Alaungsithu who built Shwegugyi) & brother, Narathu built the massive Dhammayangyi in 1170 to compensate for his crime.
Mahabodhi was built by King Htilominlo in 13th century, taking its both name and inspiration from the Mahabodhi temple at Bodh Gaya (in North India) where the Buddha reached enlightenment some 25 centuries ago.
With a height of 55 meters the Gawdawpalin is the second tallest temple in Bagan after Thatbyinnyu with 60 meters high.
The Shwezigon Pagoda was built by King Anawrahta who founded the Bagan Kingdom in 1044. The holy tooth, collar bone & frontlet relics of Buddha were enshrined in this paya.
