STORYLINE:
An intense gunbattle erupted outside the hotel where many foreign journalists are staying in the Libyan capital Tripoli.
Associated Press reporters staying in the Corinthia Hotel near the Mediterranean coast saw about a dozen rebels with machine guns and an anti-aircraft gun mounted on the back of a pickup truck battling on Thursday afternoon outside the hotel entrance with what appeared to be gunmen loyal to Moammar Gadhafi shooting from high-rise buildings nearby.
The rebels initially tried to enter the hotel so they could get on the roof for a better vantage point, but hotel staff persuaded them to leave.
Meanwhile Libyan rebels battled Gadhafi loyalists in the east on Thursday and faced stubborn resistance in the capital as the opposition moved to assert control over the oil-rich country.

Iraq: Heart-breaking scenes at Mosul zoo after park decimated by battle against IS

A lion and a bear, the only remaining inhabitants of the destroyed Nour Park in Mosul, were seen living in unsettling conditions, Sunday, after the animal park was deserted following intense fighting between government troops and the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL).

The rest of the Nour Park inhabitants either died of starvation or were killed. Some animals escaped once cages were broken open. Neighbours reportedly fed the animals until the fighting became too intense to leave the safety of their homes.

The zoo is located in the eastern part of the city, which has recently been retaken by government forces.

Tigers are eating villagers of Sundarbans

Man-animal conflict is an age old problem in the Sunderbans and there are several villages along the fringes of the forest where one will find a widow in almost every family they come across. People enter the forest in search of fish and end up getting killed and mauled by tigers. The government is totally in dark about these disappearances as no complaints or missing diary or FIRs are lodged.
