Inside The Freemasons' Oldest Grand Lodge
Freemasonry is a fraternal order that was born out of the medieval stonemasons' guilds. What's spoken about in its meetings is shrouded in mystery and only Freemasons can attend their ceremonies.

FESTIVAL OF CHANGE: Reading The Past x History Speak - Museums Association Conference 2018, Belfast
Manasi Pophale’s History Speak project examines secondary school history textbooks as a medium that constructs narratives of nationhood and national identity.
Educational curricula are most often based on state-sanctioned syllabi. Historical accounts told within the framework of a national curriculum, reflect how governing authorities offer their own narrative version of the past. The way a nation chooses to package and teach its history is both evidence of who they are, who they want to be and who they will become.
This project was part of the Festival of Change at the Museums Association Conference, Belfast 2018 where it was presented as an interactive workshop. The “telling” of historical events is analysed by comparing secondary school history textbooks from the United Kingdom and India. History Speak aims to find out if different narratives of the same events reflect particular national interests and values.
Using the History Speak Workbook, we asked participants to engage in the following questioning of the texts under investigation:
What people, events, places and actions are foregrounded and which are backgrounded?
What is absent by comparison and from both texts?
What practices, ideas, values and identities are naturalised?
What assumption or presupposition is the text making?
Which linguistic details reveal power relations and political ideology?
How are power relations exercised and negotiated in the discourse?
Going ahead with the History Speak project, we would like to digitalise the content that has been created during the Festival of Change so that it can reach a wider audience. The project can also use funding in order to present at other venues and maintain a collection. History Speak needs to expand its collection. We need secondary school history textbooks that cover historical events from the 20th Century from countries that teach the curriculum in English.
We want to collect books from:
AFRICA: Botswana, Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Kingdom of eSwatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia
ASIA: Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka
CARIBBEAN AND AMERICAS: Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, St Kitts and Nevis, St Vincent and The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America
EUROPE: Cyprus, Malta, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland
PACIFIC: Australia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu
Most importantly, we would like to find out if this project is interesting to you.

CAMEROUN VISION SPECIALE CAMER TRIP USA
MERCI...
* CAMEROUN VISION * in this edition will take you on the trail of a group of American tourists, who came to discover a Cameroon they knew until now only by comment of Noëlle their friend and colleague. Noëlle is a young American doctor from Cameroon, whose passion for her native Cameroon is matched only by the love she says she has for Cameroun Vision, your tourism and travel TV show on Canal2 International Channel, which allows her to stay in touch of the land of her ancestors and of which she has never missed the slightest edition. It is precisely because she has now loyal friends and colleagues in this TV program that the idea of a TRIP in Cameroon was born, the collective wanting to touch a finger of the sites and cultures they were seduced.
A month of TRIP precisely that led us to the west, south-west, center and south regions of Cameroon giving them to see the ETOO'S country now as Africa in miniature, which it is by the way. Find in this issue, the first of 4 editions of your program to this dedicated pilgrimage, will be in the west region with the falls and lake on the menu, but also museum of Bamougoum and meeting with the local monarch.
Do not forget to comment.
THANK YOU...

GullahGeechee Rising SEA
The Gullah/Geechee Rising SEA project will increase the capacity of Gullah/Geechees to bring their voice and their cultural traditions into resiliency and sustainability planning, community climate and environmental education, emergency and disaster preparedness and recovery training in order to insure native Gullah/Geechees are able to sustain themselves and remain on their land which is currently jeopardized by a number of environmentally related issues including water quality, seafood safety, and sea level rise. The Gullah/Geechee Rising SEA project will establish a sustainability equity alliance which is what SEA is an acronym for. The project will be led by Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (QueenQuet.com). The base of operations for this alliance will be in the Gullah/Geechee Nation which is located on the Sea Islands and Lowcountry from Jacksonville, NC to Jacksonville, FL. This region is home to a unique linguistic and ethnic minority group called the “Gullah/Geechee.” Given that the Gullah/Geechee are people of African descent considered “a minority of a minority” that reside primarily in rural areas that are not economically empowered, their voice is not often heard in the on-going discussions regarding the environmental movement including in reference to climate change and sea level rise in spite of the fact that they are literally on the front of the shoreline where major negative environmental impacts are evident.
The Gullah/Geechee community that has been self-sufficient and resilient in this area since the 1600s is now faced with an on-slaught of challenges to the continuation of their culture on their own land which has been passed down since the US Civil War. They are not only dealing with issues of economic inequity, but also environmental injustice which has and continues to cause displacement of Gullah/Geechee from the southeastern coast. For those that remain there, they are literally on the front shoreline of climate change and sea level rise. During the 1950s, a proliferation of gated areas began on the Sea Islands which started on-going displacement of Gullah/Geechees from their homeland and shoreline overbuilding. This also brought about extreme taxation of property and the criminalization of cultural heritage traditions including fishing, farming, and gathering of natural supplies for crafts. There has also been the loss of access to critical and sacred coastal areas. The traditions conducted in these areas allowed Gullah/Geechees to sustain themselves for centuries. However, they are now in jeopardy due to a lack of equity in planning and policies in the region. To that end, the Gullah/Geechee seek to create their own sustainability and resilience plans in order to continuer their cultural practices.

Bridging the Atlantic through literature
Walter Wilson Nana African, VoicesofAfrica mobile reporter in Buea, Cameroon (5 November 2008) Caribbean writers, scholars are bracing up to close the gap between the two geographical settings with their literary works. That is the focus of the First International Conference on African and Caribbean Literatures, ICACL, which the University of Buea, UB, hosted from November 4-6.
Co-Founder of the ICACL, Dr. Melvin Rahming, who is a Professor of English at Morehouse College, said they came to Buea, Cameroon and the African continent for the first time to host the ICACL, with the objective to construct a literary bridge across the Atlantic.
We have to involve Caribbean and African nations in the discussions and promotion of their own and each other's literature and culture, while adding them to the existing body of criticism on African and Caribbean literature and culture, Rahming explained. Inspired by the ICACL theme Bridging the Atlantic, UB's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Vincent Pryde Titanji noted that people across the world are re-discovering the need to hold hands once again as one race, to walk the bridge of understanding and solidarity.
According to Titanji, the essential mission of literature is to sound the warning note where danger threatens, to sing the victory song whenever human genius moves humanity forward in the right direction. In his keynote address, Cardinal Christian Whiyghan Tumi said in Cameroon, like in the Caribbean, you will find in the writers and in their writings, traits of songs, the culture of the people, their religious attitude and more. To the prelate, there are still vestiges of the Caribbean and African literatures in the world, no matter the brutal destruction experienced in the days of slavery.
Tumi questioned what the people of the Caribbean and Africa have in common? What bridges these people? And what is the nature of the bridge? He posited that Africans like Caribbeans are all human beings, with all of them having external senses, similar qualities as human persons, which include the power to reason and to have a will.
The Cardinal told ICACL participants that no matter the ends of the bridges; African and Caribbean literatures, the human being should highlight the truth because every truth is universal. He saw in the Caribbean and the African to be mutually the same but individually different.
The Caribbean has his/her own way of life and operates in his/her own way because of their environment and historical location on the map of the world, Tumi explained.
The Archbishop of Douala will encourage UB, as a centre of learning and the literary world to put in place; a publishing house, good reading room, good library and a university bookshop in order to better their literary out put and compete favourably with the rest of the world.
He invited African writers, writers of African descent, everywhere in the world to not only promote the positive aspects of their people's image but to also, vehemently condemn the excesses of some of our leaders, who have gained unenviable notoriety for their brutality and their embezzlement of public funds. Participants for the ICACL came from Japan, Nigeria, Kenya, America and host country, Cameroon.
