Info
In the old days of Aix La Chapelle (Aachen, Germany) and the whole Rhineland lived a creature which was descriped as an deformed calf with sharp fangs, that often lurks near fountains, streams, and sewers. In legend, the creature would ambush intoxicated men at night and latch onto their shoulders, forcing them to carry it around before attacking them. The name of the creature was spelled as Bahkouv. So it is and was written...
BAHKAUV is the materialization of old tales, myths, legends and stories arround the dark past of the place arround the place, that is rooted in a vulcan. A fog lays over the old and forgotten stories, but they are not lost. So the name BAHKAUV stand for a musical concept, which fit as Dungeon Synth, but even as an historical sound voyage through old times and myths. Let the music tell the tales...

Places to see in ( Aachen - Germany )
Places to see in ( Aachen - Germany )
Aachen is a spa city near Germany’s borders with Belgium and the Netherlands. Aachen Cathedral was founded around 800 A.D. and a Gothic chancel was added later. Its Domschatzkammer (treasury) has medieval artifacts including the shrine of Charlemagne, who was buried here in 814 A.D. Nearby is the baroque town hall, Aachener Rathaus, with 19th-century frescoes. Sulfurous water fills the fountains of Elisenbrunnen.
Aachen has been around for millennia. The Romans nursed their war wounds and stiff joints in the steaming waters of its mineral springs, but it was Charlemagne who put the city firmly on the European map. The emperor, too, enjoyed a dip now and then, but it was more for strategic reasons that he made Aachen the geographical and political capital of his vast Frankish Empire in 974 – arguably the first empire with European dimensions.
Today, Aachen is still a quintessentially international city that gets unique appeal from its location in the border triangle with the Netherlands and Belgium. Charlemagne’s legacy lives on in the stunning Dom, which in 1978 became Germany’s first Unesco World Heritage Site, as well as in the new Centre Charlemagne and the Route Charlemagne walking trail. Aachen has a lively vibe that's further enhanced by a large student population.
Aachen is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, at the point where Germany borders on Belgium and the Netherlands. Historically this spa-town was a prominent city, the place where the German Kings were crowned, and a famously favoured residence of Charlemagne who still lies buried in the impressive cathedral he himself had built. The city is packed with historic sights that remind of those days, including medieval buildings, city gates and beautiful fountains. Today, Aachen has become a pleasant mix of historic (often Baroque) grandeur and modern innovation. It has a population of 246,000 and is home to a large and highly regarded university. All in all, a place well worth visiting.
The old town is best explored on foot and orientation signs can be found all around. Aachen at a whole is a fairly large city. A car can come in handy but parking can get expensive, especially in the center of town. Fortunately, Aachen has an excellent city bus system, operated by ASEAG, including a few night bus lines. You can get tickets from the bus driver. You can rent a bike at the fahrrad station, in the central train station. Although it is not the most biker-friendly town in Germany, there are a number of bike routes and getting around on bike is increasingly popular. Taxis are readily available on the train stations but also on streets.

Places to see in ( Aachen - Germany ) Karlsbrunnen
Places to see in ( Aachen - Germany ) Karlsbrunnen
The Karlsbrunnen , also known as Marktbrunnen , is located on the market in Aachen directly in front of the Aachen Town Hall. The Karlsbrunnen is the oldest fountain in the city. Since 1620, he has been crowned by a figure of Charlemagne , who was cast in Dinant . When the French invaded the city in 1792, the statue of Charlemagne was taken to Paris as a spoils of war , but could be regained by successful negotiations of the incumbent Aachen Maire Johann Wilhelm Gottfried von Lommessem in 1804 and re-established a year later. The original figure has been in the Coronation Hall of the Town Hall since 1969.
The six-ton bronze shell with a diameter of 3.60 m is called in Aachen dialect Eäzekomp . This term is ambiguous. You can derive it from ore or translate it with peas bowl . It was cast according to inscription by the Aachen bell founders Franz and Peter von Trier with the support of the foreign bell founder Daniel Laner (Lonner). On its outer band, between water garlands with sea creatures, the imperial eagle and the Aachen coat of arms alternately show six water-spouting lion heads and as many applied escutcheons. These are the deserving mayors Joachim Berchem , Albrecht Schrick ,Dietrich Speckhewer , Egidius Bleyenheuft and Johann Schörer and the citizen Peter Brunnenstein assign.
The Aachen master builder Johann Joseph Couven designed the bluestone basin in 1735 . Three years later, Couven added the two bronze fish to the bluestone basin. Since the Karlsbrunnen was designed as a fountain of ornamentation, Couven designed in 1736 two small Laufbrunnen, where the citizens of Aachen could draw water. These stood in the immediate vicinity of the Charles Fountain. The three wells were alimented over the so-called market water pipe, the u. a. also supplied in its further course the Hotmannspief with water of the Pau .

Places to see in ( Aachen - Germany ) Ponttor
Places to see in ( Aachen - Germany ) Ponttor
The Ponttor in Aachen, Germany, (known in the 17th and 18th centuries as the Brückenpforte or Brückenthor) is one of the two remaining gates of the original city wall of Aachen (the other being the Marschiertor). The westernmost of the north-facing gates (the other being the Sandkaultor, which no longer exists), the Ponttor was built in the 14th century and manned by soldiers and militia throughout the Free Imperial City of Aachen era. Today, the Ponttor is used by German Youth and Scout groups belonging to the German Scount Club (1945) and the German Scout Association Saint George.
The Ponttor was constructed as a right-angled three-stock tower castle. In the main entrance, there is a Portcullis as well as a machicolation, through which things could be dropped on invading forces. A bridge passage with crenelations spanned a moat and was strengthened in the foregate with two reinforced towers (barbicans). The building material was Devonian sandstone, Pennsylvanian carbonite sandstone and quartzite, with the framing material made of light bluestone.
Though it is true that Aachen has many rivers and streams that pass through it, none are in the vicinity of the Ponttor, the name for which is assumed to come from the Latin word pons, meaning bridge. However, before the gate was named, the area of the city (as well as the area's main street) already carried this appellation, and thus the city gate is simply named for the area around it. The neighborhood received the name because of a bridge, as during Ancient Roman times, a fortification existed on what is today known as the Annuntiaten stream. Beyond this area lay extensive swamps, and to exit the settlement, one would have to cross a bridge. Later settlements that were built in the area beyond the fortification were said to be beyond the bridge, and from this, the area, street, and city gate all got their names.

Aachen, Strolling around - Germany 4K Travel Channel
Our city exploration of Aachen starts at the central station. We mainly came to Aachen to see the historical testimonies of Charlemagne, like the Aachen Cathedral and the City Hall, as well as the Christmas Market, but we show these parts in separate videos.About 300 m west of the central station is the Marschiertor, built in the 13th century. It used to be the ancient southern gate of the Aachen city wall. Today it serves as the clubhouse of the carnival society Stadtgarde Oecher Penn von 1857 e.V. In addition to a festival hall, there is a wine cellar, a taproom, and other rooms. The festival hall offers space for 200 guests.
In Theaterstraße, we pass the Historical Institute of the RWTH (Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen), obviously in a former government building.
To the right is the back of the Theater Aachen, a cultural institution for drama and musical theater. The theater opened in 1825.
Only a few meters from the Elisenbrunnen fountain, a market takes place. This time we take the time to have a closer look at the hall with the fountains and the archaeological excavations in the park.
Passing the fountain Circulation of money and the puppet fountain, we reach the Hof square. The square is one of the most popular and beautiful places in the city. In summer, you can sit here outside and drink a glass.
The monument at the Hühnermarkt square shows a chicken thief. A boy wanted to steal a hen in the dark. Unfortunately, he caught a cockerel. The cockerel began to crow loudly, and thus the crime came to light.
We have already wondered several times about a sign, which can be found in many places on brass plates on the pavement.
On the market square in front of the town hall, we discover it on the wall of a pharmacy. And here we get the explanation. Since Charlemagne could not write, he signed documents with the Golden Stroke.
At the Büchel, we find a monument of the Bahkauv. This legendary figure from Aachen is said to live in the sewers of the thermal springs.

Hermes errichtet.
