August 31, 2014
To see a map of the park and our route for Day 1, skip to 10:45.
We took the 9:30 AM bus from FengHuang to WuLingYuan Scenic Area, which transited through ZhangJiaJie City. It took about 3.5 hours to get to ZhangJiaJie City then another hour from there to the bus station in the town of WuLingYuan. We had to walk for about 15 minutes from the bus station to the WuLingYuan Park Entrance where we bought our three-day passes for 245 RMB each. We then took a bus for approximately 20 minutes to the Bailong Elevator. Tickets cost 72 RMB per person. The elevator transported us 326 meters in just 1 minute 58 seconds! The view from the elevator was beautiful.
Once we reached the top of the mountain and saw a couple initial viewing points - which were amazing (!) - we boarded another bus to Yuanjiajie, which is home to Avatar Mountain and The First Bridge Under Heaven among other gorgeous sites.
We took yet another bus from YuanJiaJie to our hostel, ZhongTian International Youth Hostel, at WangQiaoTai. We paid 150 RMB per night for a private room with ensuite bathroom. It was comfortable, and the staff were friendly, although they do not all speak English.
The top of Wulingyuan is well connected by buses. You can get from the Bailong Elevator to YuanJiaJie, WangQiaoTai, YangJiaJie, and TianZiShan as well as anywhere in between. For reference, it would take at least an hour by bus from the Elevator to TianZishan. The buses seem to start around 7:30 AM and run until 6:00 PM. They are FREE! Because there is no official bus stop at WangQiaoTai (it's just located at a bend in the road), we had to tell the driver where we wanted to get off. When leaving from WangQiaoTai, we just stood by the side of the road and flagged down a bus.
Happy travels!
Thank you for watching!!

The Bailong Elevator to The Top - Zhangjiajie National Park, China
Travels With Sheila thought Tony (guide) was kidding when he said we are going to take a shuttle bus to the Bailong Elevator. What the....? The shuttle buses were jowl-to-jowl with tourists so we took a short 20-minute walk along the Zhangjiajie roads and, son of a gun, there was an elevator or life, whatever you choose to call it.
The Bailong Elevator/Lift rises 326 meters/1,069 feet up the side of a cliff to the top of a plateau. We couldn't believe our eyes. The Bailong Elevator/Lift is claimed to be the biggest, and most exposed elevator in the world. That didn't make ex-Marine (husband, Steve) happy at all with his fear of heights. Up we go...
