360° KYUSHUxTOKYO - History / Fukuoka
This video is available with supplementary captions.
360° KYUSHUxTOKYO is the project that shows you the must-see wonders of Tokyo and prefectures of the Kyushu region, in western Japan, in pairs.
This chapter’s theme is “History”, introducing the Imperial Palace(Tokyo)and Dazaifu (Fukuoka)
To explore more, go to
■Tokyo:The Imperial Palace
Built on the site of the former Edo Castle, and retaining some of its walls and moats, the Imperial Palace stands in stunning contrast to downtown Tokyo with its scenery and historic ramparts.
Here we find Sakuradamon Gate, an important cultural property of Japan, the statue of the samurai in the Sengoku period and stone walls from the time that Edo Castle was built.
The expansive, shady Kokyo Gaien National Garden is a bustling public park and tourist spot, a mecca for runners enjoying the beautiful setting.

■Fukuoka:Dazaifu
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is dedicated to the Shinto god of literature and education, Tenjin (Sugawara no Michizane).
The path leading to the shrine is busy with worshippers and shops.
Umegae mochi (a grilled red bean cake stamped with a plum blossom) is a popular snack for tourists.
Visitors from around the world pass through the majestic Roumon Gate before approaching the main shrine.

Kyushu National Museum in Dazaifu
When Dazaifu's Kyushu National Museum (九州国立博物館, Kyūshū Kokuritsu Hakubutsukan) was opened in 2005, it joined the Tokyo, Kyoto, and Nara National Museums to become only the fourth national museum in the country. The other three museums were built in the late 1800s, making the opening of the Dazaifu museum quite an event. During the Nara and Heian Periods (710-1185), Dazaifu was the site of a government office that dealt with diplomatic relations with mainland Asia. The museum recognizes its host city's history by basing its exhibits on the concept of Understanding Japanese culture from an Asian point of view.
The museum building itself is a massive blue construction that resembles a sports stadium more than an exhibition space. The museum's appearance is made even more striking by the fact that it is located in a city as small as Dazaifu. Upon first entering the building visitors will surely be impressed by the spacious entrance hall. The main exhibition is on the fourth floor and is divided into five chronological sections that span Japanese history from the Prehistoric Era to the Edo Period. The sections are further divided into smaller rooms that have a unifying theme.
The museum has an impressive collection of artifacts that are presented in both a creative and informative fashion. There are also a number of small theaters displaying short movies, one of which uses impressive super-high-definition technology. Special exhibitions are displayed on the third floor and change every few months. On the first floor, there is a room called the Ajippa with games and hands-on exhibits from various Asian cultures, that is particularly well suited for kids.

Three More Years...
Visas can be one of the most stressful part of living in Japan. Today I talk about what's going on with mine, and my trajectory is leading at this point in time. After 13 years in Japan, will I live here forever? Will I aim for permanent residency? What is my current visa status? Click WATCH to find out!
My visa lawyer (I actually call her a 行政書士 gyosei shoshi, but visa lawyer is much easier to understand.)
Maico Ono
^ If you are looking for options post graduation, beyond English teaching, are looking to transition into an investors, startup, or relatively obscure visa, or are in a tricky situation that isn't easily classifiable through online research, definitely send her an e-mail. This isn't sponsored at all, I've just used her for three years now, and she's the only person I consulted who didn't just tell me to get married because it was easier. :)
**Obviously this is for Fukuoka residents (and greater Kyushu), sorry I can't help recommend someone for Tokyo. But if you are looking, I encourage you to talk to multiple people before choosing who to go with.

As much as I don't like uploading unpolished videos, I think it's the only way to get myself to update more consistently. :o

Saiki City in Oita Prefecture – Home to delicious seafood and cat island Fukashima
Saiki City, in Oita Prefecture, is located on Japan's southern island of Kyushu, about 780 km south-west of Tokyo, and 150km east of Fukuoka City. It is the fifth largest city by population and the largest city by area in Kyushu located in the eastern prefecture of Oita, and the centre of the south-east region of Oita. Saiki is pleasantly located on Saiki bay, part of the Bungo Channel that feeds the Inland Sea of Japan (Setonaikai). Situated on the coastline, Saiki experiences mild weather all year round, due to the influence of the warm currents along the Bungo Channel. Rainfall is most prevalent from June to early July, and the chance of snow is limited. Due to is close proximity to the sea, Saiki City is famous for delicious seafood and beautiful coast lines. Chien Chien from Taiwan will take you on a tour through Saiki city and show you famous places like Nishi Sushi Restaurant and Oita’s cat island Fukushima.
