People's Park - Tea and Ear Cleanings | This is Chengdu, China
The People's Park in Chengdu (pronounced Renmin Gongyuan in Chinese) isn't just the first and largest green space downtown. There is so much to see and do. You can go on rides, feed fish, boat on the lake, or check out some of the more unique to China things. We explored the marriage market, where parents of single people scramble to find a mate for their son or daughter. In another section of the park, you can watch men write calligraphy on the pavement using a large water brush. If you want to take in some music, there is an area where people perform, or play music to workout to. Each corner of this area has a decibel counter that insures you don't play your music too loud. Of course, there is lots of amazing people watching that can be done in this very popular park. People play badminton, mahjong, jianzi - the Chinese version of hacky sack, and perform tai chi. If you're hungry, you can get a caramel animal on a stick that is drawn right in front of you. Or, try sandapao or cannonball' - a glutinous rice ball snack that is just as much fun to watch being prepared as it is to eat.
The park has several tea houses that are an amazing place to relax and drink an amazing cup of tea. People will sit for hours sipping tea, and refilling their cup with the hot water that's provided. If you're brave enough, you can try getting your ears cleaned while you're there. Using long metal tools, the ear cleaners with scoop out every bit of wax and even give you a head massage. It's another interesting thing to watch, although a little gross.

The capital of southwest China's Sichuan province, Chengdu is a modern city with plenty of history and culture to back it up. A morning here is well-spent wandering the massive People's Park, where locals gather to sip tea, take a boat ride, or get in the groove with live music and plenty of group dancing. From there, a stroll through downtown's Tianfu Square gives you a glimpse into both Chengdu's past and future.

Chengdu is famous for its tea culture, and People's Park is THE place to come for an introduction. You can watch people dancing, and also watch a lot of classic Chinese activities! Watch the vid to find out! Please like:
People's park is found directly in the centre of Chengdu, and is a famous park for it's lively dance square in the centre of the park, where hundreds of people gather to exercise and have fun. Mostly middle aged/elders come to this park, so it's an awesome place to get a feel for traditional Chinese activities.
People come here to dance, play majiang, play cards, sing karaoke, watch kung fu tea pouring ceremonies, watch dance shows, practice their calligraphy on the sidewalk with water brushes, drink tea, and most of all, relax.
With all these activities to participate in and watch, this park definitely stands out in Chengdu as one of the most lively and exciting parks to visit. This is NOT A quiet park, so if you come, make sure to come here for FUN! If you're looking for a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of Chengdu, you can find it in this park in certain corners, but for the most part, it is very loud here!
