Baijnath is a small town on the banks of the Gomati river in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, India.Baijnath has been selected as one of the four places[3] to be connected by the 'Shiva Heritage Circuit' in Kumaun, under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme of the Government of India. The temple is stationed 16.5 km from Kausani and is believed to have been built by Kumaon Katyuri King in 1150 A.D. Dedicated to lord Shiva, Baijnath Temple is actually a temples’ complex.

The temperature is pleasant in the summer months and extremely cold in the winter seasons. One can do trekking in the various surroundings around Kausani. The panoramic view of the Nanda Devi Biosphere from a distance of 300 kms away is simply breathtaking.
Get around
Gandhi Ashram is the most sought after place by the tourists. This is the place where Mahatma Gandhi stayed briefly and written the 'Anashakti Yog'. The Ashram is situated on the upper part of the Town. Inside the Ashram, (Photography not allowed) consists of various pictures of the great leader in differenet phases of his life. The view of the Himalayas can be viewed from this Ashram also is quite splendid.
Baijnath Temple, situated around 20 kms north from Kausani Town and is a series of small / big temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Feeding the fishes just beside the temple is considered a ritual after offering your pujas.
If you have time in hour hand, half a day may be reserved for Rudradhari. It is 20 kms away from Kausani, and a unique experience of 1 Km trekking through the mountains and beautiful scenary to reach the century old Lord Shiva temple.

This group of temples is popularly known as Baijnath (Vaidyanath). Consisting of main shrine of lord shiv and 17 subsidiary shrines called as Kedareswar, Lakshmi-Narayan and Brahmini Devi etc. Built in Nagara Style (Curvilinear Spire). The Main Temple is Pancharatha on plan with a projected portico while the shikhara (spire) of the temple has collapsed in the past. The main attraction of the group is standing statue of Parvati made of grey schist. Tresses of 25 Miniature around it. On the basis of architectural features these temples can be assigned to 9th to 12th cent. A.D. and probably built by the Katyuri rulers of ancient Kartikeypura.

The temples were constructed by the Kings in 1150 AD.
The temple is renowned for being one of the few temples in the world where Parvati is depicted with a beautiful iidol chiseled in black stone in standing position. I have never seen such an amazing & beautiful depcition of Paravati , till date. The temple has a pond as well.
How to reach -
Temple is well connected with super smooth road & 20 km northwest of Bageshwar. It is located at the junction of the Bageshwar-Gwaldam and the Almora-Gopeshwar road. It is connected to Haldwani, Bhimtal, Almora and Ranikhet by the 'Kumaun Darshan' service of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation as well.
