Landscape Photography at Ireland's Baily Lighthouse.
The Baily lighthouse sits on the south eastern tip of Howth Head in Dublin.
This shoot was short and intense as I changed my mind half way through and raced against time to get the shot.
From Sutton to Baily Lighthouse and Howth - IRELAND
The Baily Lighthouse is a lighthouse on the southeastern part of Howth Head in Dublin, Ireland. It is maintained by the Commissioners of Irish Lights. The first lighthouse on this site was built in about 1667 by Sir Robert Reading, and was one of six that Reading had received letters patent to build from Charles II in 1665. The original facility consisted of a small cottage and a square tower which supported a coal-fired beacon. Parts of the original buildings remain. In 1790, the coal beacon was replaced with a set of six Argand oil lamps, each including a silvered copper parabolic and a bulls-eye glass pane. During this period, the lighthouse was maintained by the Revenue Commissioners. In 1865, the light source was improved from catoptric to first order dioptric. At the same time, John Richardson Wigham had patented a gas-burning light, so experiments with this new system were tried at Baily. A gas works was built at the station to produce the fuel, first from oil, then shale, and finally rich cannel coal. The experiments were a success, and the system was added to nine other lighthouses. An air horn was installed in 1871 for times of fog, which was replaced with a siren in 1879. The bell was kept as a standby system until 1890. The siren was replaced by a diaphone in 1926. In 1892, two additional homes for Assistant Keepers were built. In 1902, a system was installed that caused the gas light to flash once every 30 seconds, instead of shining continually. In 1908, the gas light was replaced with one using incandescent vaporised paraffin. In 1953, a larger house was built for the Principal Keeper below the lighthouse. In June, 1972, the system was electrified, with a 1,500 watt bulb in a rotating lens, producing a flash every 20 seconds that can be seen at a range of 26 nautical miles (48 km). Source:

Howth is a generally affluent area in the Fingal County Council administrative area of County Dublin, Ireland. Originally just a small fishing village, Howth is now a busy suburb of Dublin, with a mix of dense residential development and wild hillside. The only neighbouring district on land is Sutton.
Howth is the main component of the scenic peninsula of Howth Head, which begins around 8 miles north east of Dublin city. The village itself is located 9 miles from Dublin city centre (the ninth milestone is in the village itself), and spans most of the northern part of Howth Head, which is connected to the rest of Dublin via a narrow strip of land (or tombolo) at Sutton Cross.
Howth is at the end of a regional road from Dublin City and is one of the northern termini of the DART suburban rail system. It is served by Dublin Bus.

Howth Lighthouse - Travel Sketch Dublin
My day off from making the master copy at the National Gallery of Ireland, and I explore the surrounds with local Irish artist, Dee Crowe. First stop, Howth Lighthouse. It's my second lighthouse that I've painted in Ireland. And right after, it was straight to the fish and chips shop. Bonus was to hear Brian play! Thank you for the music. Please excuse the bad audio at Howth. I forgot to bring my lavalier mic.

Yuneec Breeze + Timelapse Bailey Lighthouse, Howth, Co Dublin, Ireland
This morning I went back to a location I have been visiting regulary over the last 2 years. This time I brought the breeze along. It was only my third time proper flying and it was rather unnerving having her out over deep water like this. It was also quite windy so the video is a bit shaky but she came back to me every time....

Take a guided tour of... the global tech company based in Howth's lighthouse
When Robin Blandford wanted a bigger office for his company, a generic space in a business park wasn’t exactly what he had in mind.
Blandford, the founder of D4H Readiness and Response, wanted a home that made sense for his company, which develops software for emergency response teams worldwide.
One day when he was kayaking in Dublin Bay, he found the perfect spot – Baily Lighthouse near Howth Head in north Dublin. A few calls later and a lease with the Commissioners of Irish Lights made it a done deal.
“The office works perfectly because it speaks our brand. This building has been saving lives for 202 years now, and we say we’re giving it another chance to do just that,” Blandford says.
Recently, Fora has taken readers on a series of tours of unusual workspaces, including a coffee shop in a corrugated shipping container and a tech company with its own Irish pub.
This week, Blandford showed us around his company’s lighthouse:
