Frederick Cayley Robinson (Brentford, Middlesex 1862 -- London 1927)
Painter of idyllic scenes and domestic interiors, decorator and illustrator, influenced by Puvis de Chavannes, Burne-Jones and the Italian Quattrocento. Born at Brentford, Middlesex. Studied at the St. John's Wood School of Art, and then at the RA Schools; lived on a yacht painting realistic sea pictures 1888-90.
Studied at the Académie Julian in Paris from 1890-92. The influence of Puvis de Chavannes, and that of Fra Angelico after a visit to Florence in 1898, caused him to adopt a more decorative manner. Professor of Figure Composition and Decoration at Glasgow School of Art from 1914-24.
Exhibited from 1877 at the Society of British Artists, become Member of the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) in 1888, and at the Royal Academy from 1895.
In December of 1898 he married Winifred Lucy Dalley, in Bradford on Avon, Somerset. They had one daughter, Barbara.
Associate of the Royal Academy (ARA) 1921, Member of the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) 1919. Member of the New English Art Club in 1912. First one-man exhibition was at the Carfax Gallery in 1908.
Designed décor and costumes for Maeterlinck's Blue Bird, Haymarket Theatre in 1909.
Painted a series of mural panels for Middlesex Hospital 1910-14.
Designed posters for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. Illustrated The Book of Genesis 1914.
Died in London 4 January 1927. Included in the Late Members exhibition at the R.A., winter 1928.
He was experimental in technique, particularly in different forms of tempera, and his membership of the Tempera Society connected him with the Birmingham Group of Painters and Craftsmen. Charlotte Gere notes that the quietism and brooding quality of his pictures has much in common with the Cotswald artists, Joseph Southall, Frederick Griggs, Arthur Gaskin and Henry Payne.

WRAP - A Recycling Project [West Herts College Watford, Media Production Course Work]
I produced this documentary in my second year of my Media Production course. It shows the organisation WRAP which gets materials through suppliers which would otherwise end up in the bin. They (volunteer members) reuse these materials and provide schools, artist etc. with them.
The Rainbow Audiobook by D. H. Lawrence | Audiobook with subtitles | Part 1
Briefly appearing in 1915, then banned and taken out of circulation for its adult treatment of sexuality, Lawrence's visionary novel The Rainbow attempts to situate the lives of three generations of the Brangwen family within the continuous social change marking the Victorian transformation of Britain. Farmer Tom and his Polish wife Lydia, whose peaceful rural existence re-enacts the potent myths of Genesis; artisan Will and the matriarch Anna, who go to live among the industrial and mining communities so rapidly sprung up around Nottingham; finally the restless Ursula who, moving to the city, seeks sexual and emotional fulfilment with the Polish-descended Skrebensky - the three couples are not merely illustrative of the changing times, but allow the author to study in depth the conflict between the outer 'social' selves of those individuals and what he curiously calls the 'inhuman' essential being, the 'is-ness' at the core of their psychical life.
Lawrence evokes this dark, unconscious 'vital core' through a language of breathtaking poetic beauty; a rhythmic incantatory prose which listeners to this recording will find perfectly rendered by Tony Foster, in all its nuances. Like Paul Morel, the hero of the earlier Sons and Lovers, Ursula survives her losses to face a future of uncertain but radiant hope: She saw in the rainbow the earth's new architecture, the old, brittle corruption of houses and factories swept away, the world built up in a living fabric of Truth, fitting to the over-arching heaven.
