Bakkhali is a tourism centre in the Kakdwip subdivision of South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, India. The place is less crowded and ideal for those tourists, who wants to spend time with solitude.
You can reach Bakkhali by 3 and 1/2 hours from Kolkata. You easily get a local train for Namkhana station from Sealdah railway station. Best times are 5:12 am and 7:14 am. The fair is just 25 rupees(INR).

Bakkhali Sea Beach | SUJIT's | Through my eyes

Bakkhali is located on one of the many deltaic islands spread across southern Bengal. Most of the islands are part of the Sunderbans, barring a few at the fringes. Some of these are joined together with bridges over narrow creeks. This small island juts out into the vast expanse of the Bay of Bengal.The south facing crescent shaped beach of Bakkhali is one of the rare ones in the world that offer great views of both sunrise and sunset.
There is a 7 km long beach stretching from Bakkhali to Frezarganj with gently rolling waves. These are twin beach now forming one continuous locality. A small stretch near Bakkhali up to Banbibi Mandir has been lighted up. It is a hard beach suitable for cycling. Driving on the beach is strickly prohibited. Save some time to visit this beautyful place MOHONA which has a distance of 3 K.M. from Bakkhali.

Henry Island is an island near Bakkhali in South 24 Parganas, India. It is around 130 km (81 mi) from Kolkata.

Bakkhali is a village under Namkhana police station of Namkhana CD Block in Kakdwip subdivision of South 24 Parganas district in the Indian State of West Bengal.

The Bakkhali Beach is perhaps the most breath taking beaches in India. The near 7 km coastline is not just the most stunning view of the sea merging into the land, but is also very sparsely populated, which accentuates its beauty.

Fraserganj Beach: See the house of Andrew Fraser, a lieutenant-governor of Bengal, the beach and the windmills on/on the way to the beach

Benfish Harbour: Visit the Benfish harbour and Frasergunj Beach on the way to Henry's Island.

Henry Island: You can take a trip to Henry's Island and Watch Tower. A rickshaw trip will travel through the local villages and their surrounds. From the watch tower you can view the entire Sunderban area.

Henry Island is not just very famous in Bakkhali but is very popular throughout the country. The place derives its name from a British explorer who arrived on the island back in the 19th century.

The area of Fraserganj is popular because of some ancient history. Lord Fraser, a British Official resided in this area. He was so mesmerized by the place that he decided to build it up, but the construction he undertook never got completed, owing to the sea.

The Crocodile Park in Bakkhali is the only crocodile reservation park in West Bengal and one of the few in the world.



The nearest rail station is at Namkhana. There are regular trains from Sealdah via Lakshmikantapur and Kakdwip to Namkhana. Check the time table in erail.in.Train fare is ₹25 and the journey takes around 2½ hrs. From Namkhana station you will get a van rickshaw or TOTO

Where to stay: The best place to stay at bakkhali is Bakkhali tourist lodge of west bengal tourism corporation limited, which can be booked from wbtdcl.com
If you want to stay at Henry's island then you may book property of west bengal state fisheries department. They have sundori complex there which can be booked from wbsfdc.com

Indian Coast Guard Hovercraft at Bakkhali, West Bengal

A hovercraft, also known as an air-cushion vehicle or ACV, is a craft capable of travelling over land, water, mud or ice and other surfaces both at speed and when stationary. Hovercrafts are hybrid vessels operated by a pilot as an aircraft rather than a captain as a marine vessel.

Hovercraft use blowers to produce a large volume of air below the hull that is slightly above atmospheric pressure. The pressure difference between the higher pressure air below the hull and lower pressure ambient air above it produces lift, which causes the hull to float above the running surface. For stability reasons, the air is typically blown through slots or holes around the outside of a disk or oval shaped platform, giving most hovercraft a characteristic rounded-rectangle shape. Typically this cushion is contained within a flexible skirt, which allows the vehicle to travel over small obstructions without damage.

Griffon/Grse 8000 TD class is a series of hovercraft designed by M/s Griffon Hovercraft Ltd, Southampton, England and jointly built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers, Kolkata and Griffon for the Indian Coast Guard.

The Hovercraft's hull is made of light weight marine grade aluminium alloy. They are powered by two 588 KW radiator cooled MTU Diesel Engines, with 2.6 m variable pitch propellers and have 1.25 m skirt to enable the craft of the series to sprint speed of 53.5 knots with high speed patrolling capacity in coastal shallow waters, marshy areas, creeks as well as deep seas. The craft are also fitted also with a 12.7 mm gun. The crafts are intended to be used for search and rescue operation, assistance to ships and craft in distress and interruption and interdiction of offending vessels day and night.

The Indian Coast Guard acquired six 8000TDs in 2001. Two of the Griffon 8000TD(M)s were manufactured at GHL's boatyard in Southampton England, and four were assembled from completely knocked-down kits (CKD's) by GRSE in Calcutta, India. In 2010, Griffon Hoverwork won another £34 million contract to supply the Indian Coast Guard with twelve 8000TD hovercrafts.

A beautiful resort town in West Bengal, Bakkhali is a lovely weekend destination! This is another of the few deltaic islands of South Bengal that juts out into the Bay of Bengal. Bakkhali is also a part of the Sundarban Marshes and is an isolated area. The twin town now makes a single locality and there is also a beautiful beach here which stretches from Bakkhali to Frasergunj. The beach has hard sand and is suitable for cycling, walking as well as driving. Henry's Island, a few kilometres away is a great place to spend your day! There are a couple of guest houses here which offer lovely views of the sea and white sand beach.
