Bakthang Waterfalls near Gangtok city, Sikkim, India
Bakthang waterfalls is a relatively small waterfall about 3-4 km's from Gangtok city, the capital of Sikkim state. Bakthang waterfall is on the way to the Banjhakri Waterfall by the road side, one can stop by and enjoy the beauty of nature for sometime. Tashi view point is reportedly further on the same road NH31A which connects north Sikkim.
Rope sliding or rappling activity too is available at the waterfall for the enthusiasts. Being a hilly state, the views from the waterfall area is also nice subject to weather conditions.
In local language ‘Bak’ means forest and ‘thang’ means meadow or place. The natural spring water source of this falls originates from the dense vegetation above this site which is preserved as a Smriti Ban by the Forest Department.
A cafetaria & photography wearing local costume are also available at the waterfalls area.
It takes about 15 minutes by road to reach the waterfalls from Gangtok city centre. The source of water is reportedly Ratey Chu.
We stopped by at Bakthang waterfalls on our road trip to the Banjhakri waterfalls, Himalayan zoo etc near by places to visit in and around Gangtok.
Probably a seasonal waterfall.

When I was on the trip of Gangtok,Sikkim then I was saw an amazing & Beautiful Shaped full flowing Bakthang Waterfalls. This is a wonderful waterfall located on the North Sikkim Highway towards Tashi View Point and about 3kms from Gangtok town. While visiting Tashi View point or returning, it's worth stopping at this roadside waterfall for sometime. While the height of the fall isn't much, it's the width of the fall that makes it so beautiful.

Bakthang Waterfalls, Gangtok near Tashi View Point in East Sikkim - Bakthang Waterfall is a Roadside Natural Waterfall & One of the most popular Waterfalls in Gangtok. Bakthang Waterfalls, Swastik, Gangtok, Sikkim - Bakthang waterfall is only 20 minutes drive from Gangtok town to a place called Swastik, adjacent to the army cantonment area. A serene waterfalls cascades down the rock forming a small pool down below. It is located along the 31A National Highway connecting to North Sikkim. In local language ‘Bak’ means a forest and ‘thang’ meaning meadow or place. The natural spring water source of this falls originates from the dense vegetation above this site which is preserved as a Smriti Ban by the Forest Department.

It's a wonderful sight to take pictures. Another attraction here for the young and the energetic is the rope sliding (for Rs. 100/-), although it's only a short slide of only few seconds but still quite thrilling. You can see the Kanchenjunga snow peaks from the fall area and also a part of the Gangtok township.
Bakthang Waterfalls - 20 minutes drive from Gangtok is Bakthang Water Falls along the 31 A National Highway leading to North Sikkim. It originates from Ratey Chu, the main water source of Gangtok area.
Banjhakri Falls Gangtok, Sikkim
Banjhakri Falls is near Gangtok the capital of Sikkim state in India. It is also called by the names Ban Jhakri Falls or Ban Jhankri Falls.
Banjhakri Waterfalls is a perennial Waterfalls. The Water cascades down in stages over the rocks from the springs in the higher reaches. The height of the waterfall is estimated to be about 100 ft. The direct plunge fall appears to be about 40 to 50 ft. The direct plunge falls area has intense force of water.
It is located in a landscaped park about 7 kms from Gangtok town. There are paved pathways and footbridge around the park which spreads across about 2-acres of land area with many trees and flowering plants in it. It's a popular picnic spot.
It is a thematic park. Around the waterfalls gardens have been beautifully landscaped and adorned with several statues of Ban Jhakri, Lyam Lymay, Mangpas and Lepcha ancestors.
All along the park you will find ethnic sculptures and figurines depicting jhakri culture. The figurines in the park illustrates rituals, some healing ceremonies and others the induction process in the life of a shaman.
Ban literally means forest or jungle, and Jhakri means traditional healer. A Ban Jhakri is a mythical man, who exists only in folktales within the Nepali Community in Sikkim. Local people believe that Ban Jhakri dwells in the forest and live in rock caves worshiping sprits. The ethnic communities of Sikkim still believe in such mysteries as it is part of their tradition and culture.
There is also a small man made lake with a dragon sculpture. Renewable energy sources in the form of solar lamps and a mini hydel station have been created to provide lighting and other energy needs of the park.
It is recreation centre and a Gangtok tourist attraction. Video captured during visit to the park.

There is no entry fee.
The views around are beautiful. You can see the Kanchenjunga snow peaks from the fall area and also a part of the Gangtok township.
It takes only some 20 minutes to reach by taxi along NH10. Tashi View Point is nearby.
