Australian Police Move Against Pending Muslim Terror Attack
Australian leader says intelligence of beheading plot led to Sydney police raids ...
Fears supporters of Islamic State were planning to kidnap a random person and carry out a demonstration killing prompted Australia's largest ever anti-terror raids, the prime minister has said.
Asked about reports that the planned attack involved a plot to behead a person in Sydney, Tony Abbott said: That's the intelligence we received.
The exhortations - quite direct exhortations - were coming from an Australian who is apparently quite senior in ISIL (also known as IS or ISIS) to networks of support back in Australia to conduct demonstration killings here in this country.
This is not just suspicion, this is intent and that's why the police and security agencies decided to act in the way they have.
More than 800 officers took part in the operation which saw at least 15 people detained and one charged with a serious terrorism-related offence.
The suspects had purchased machetes, balaclavas and military fatigues and planned to record the killing to be released on social media, Australia's ABC News reported.
Pictures in the Australian media showed a sword being removed from one of the properties
The early morning raids of homes and businesses in Sydney and Brisbane came just days after Australia raised its national terror threat level to high for the first time, citing the likelihood of terrorist attacks by Australians radicalised in Iraq or Syria.
One of the suspects arrested made a brief appearance in court on Thursday.
Prosecutors said Omarjan Azari - who is charged with conspiracy to prepare for a terrorist attack- was involved in an alleged plan to gruesomely kill someone, an attack that was clearly designed to shock and horrify the public.
Court documents accused the 22-year-old of conspiring with former Sydney nightclub bouncer Mohammad Ali Baryalei, 33, who is suspected to be Australia's most senior member of IS in Syria and Iraq.
Prosecutor Michael Allnutt said the charge followed from the interception of a phone call made in recent days.
Police have also issued an arrest warrant for Baryalei.
Sydney is home to around half of Australia's 500,000 Muslims, with the majority living in the western suburbs where the raids were carried out.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said the operation showed the reality of the threat facing Australia.
He said: You know it is of serious concern that right at the heart of our communities we have people that are planning to conduct random attacks.
Today we work together to make sure that didn't happen. We have disrupted that particular attack.
Australia, which is due to host the G20 Leaders Summit in Brisbane in mid-November, is concerned over the number of its citizens believed to be fighting overseas with Islamist militant groups.

Royal Marines
The Royal Marine Corps, or Royal Marines (RM), is a branch of the British Armed Forces. It is the marine corps and amphibious infantry of the United Kingdom, and forms part of the Naval Service (along with the Royal Navy and associated organisations) under its own command. The Royal Marines were formed in 1755 as marine infantry for the Royal Navy. However, it can trace its origins back to the formation of the Duke of York and Albany's maritime regiment of Foot at the grounds of the Honourable Artillery Company on 28 October 1664.
The Royal Marines are a maritime-focused, amphibious, highly specialised light infantry force of commandos. They are capable of deploying at short notice in support of Her Majesty's Government's military and diplomatic objectives overseas. The Royal Marines are organised into a light infantry brigade (3 Commando Brigade) and a number of separate units including the Special Boat Service, 1 Assault Group Royal Marines, Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines (previously the Comacchio Group), and a company within the Special Forces Support Group. The Corps operates in all environments and climates, though particular expertise and training is spent on amphibious warfare, arctic Warfare, mountain warfare, expeditionary warfare, Rapid Reaction and supporting Special Forces.

Stephen Jones: Hatology
Born in Cheshire, England, and schooled in Liverpool, milliner Stephen Jones is a fashion icon. Coming of age during London’s street fashion boom in the late 1970s, Jones first made a name for himself as an uncompromising style-blazer at the legendary Blitz nightclub, where he was perpetually crowned with a striking hat of his own idiosyncratic design. By 1980, Jones had opened his first millinery salon in the heart of London’s Covent Garden. Those premises soon became a place of pilgrimage and patronage, as everyone from rock stars to royalty, from Boy George to Diana, Princess of Wales, identified Jones as the milliner who would help them make arresting headlines. Nearly forty years later, Jones’s era-defining edge continues to attract a celebrity clientele which includes Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Mick Jagger, and the Royal Family. Now, as ever, at the forefront of fashion, his beguiling hats routinely grace the most celebrated magazine covers and enliven window displays of the world’s most stylish stores. From runways to racecourses, from pop-promos to royal garden parties, millinery by Stephen Jones adds the exclamation mark to every fashion statement.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
When the United Kingdom declared war on Germany at the start of World War I in August 1914, settler society in Southern Rhodesia, then administered by the British South Africa Company, received the news with great patriotic enthusiasm. The Company administrator, Sir William Milton, wired the UK government, All Rhodesia ... ready to do its duty. Although it supported Britain, the Company was concerned about the possible financial implications for its chartered territory should it make direct commitments to the war effort, particularly at first, so most of the colony's contribution to the war was made by Southern Rhodesians individually—not only those who volunteered to fight abroad, but also those who remained at home and raised funds to donate food, equipment and other supplies.
Starting immediately after the outbreak of war, parties of white Southern Rhodesians paid their own way to England to join the British Army. Most Southern Rhodesians who served in the war enlisted in this way and fought on the Western Front, taking part in many of the major battles with an assortment of British, South African and other colonial units, most commonly the King's Royal Rifle Corps, which recruited hundreds of men from the colony, and created homogenous Rhodesian platoons. Troopers from Southern Rhodesia became renowned on the Western Front for their marksmanship, a result of their frontier lifestyle. Some of the colony's men served in the Royal Flying Corps, one of the two predecessors of the Royal Air Force. The Rhodesia Regiment, the Rhodesia Native Regiment and the British South Africa Police served in the African theatre of the conflict, contributing to the South-West African and East African campaigns.
Though it was one of the few combatant territories not to raise fighting men through conscription, proportional to white population, Southern Rhodesia contributed more manpower to the British war effort than any other dominion or colony, and more than Britain itself. White troops numbered 5,716, about 40% of white men in the colony, with 1,720 of these serving as commissioned officers. The Rhodesia Native Regiment enlisted 2,507 black soldiers, about 30 black recruits scouted for the Rhodesia Regiment, and around 350 served in British and South African units. Over 800 Southern Rhodesians of all races lost their lives on operational service during the war, with many more seriously wounded.
The territory's contributions during the First World War became a major entry in many histories of the colony, and a great source of pride for the white community, as well as for some black Rhodesians. It played a part in the UK government's decision to grant self-government in 1923, and remained prominent in the national consciousness for decades. When the colonial government unilaterally declared independence from Britain in 1965, it deliberately did so on Armistice Day, 11 November, and signed the proclamation ...
