Balancing Rock, Nova Scotia
Balancing Rock is located in Tiverton, Nova Scotia
From Halifax its a 280 km drive and a Ferry Ride.
This single narrow column of basalt sits literally on its tip along the rugged coastline of Nova Scotia, Canada
There is a 2.6 km trailleading down to the cliffside to view this famous landmark. Come prepared for 235 step leading down and then back up the steep cliff to the woods.
This is a beautiful spot and not to be missed... I mean how long can that rock stay standing like that??
The ferry ride over is free if you come by foot but it will cost you $7 RT if you come with a vehicle. The crossing takes about 5 minutes as does the loading and unloading of the Petite Princess.
Many people come over to watch the whales in the evenings.
This is also another Terri Travels Car Camping Canada Adventure
So I will be exploring the village and checking out potential Camp sites.
I hope you enjoy this video of Beautiful Tiverton and the Famous Balancing Rock!!

Balancing Rock
a June hike out to see Balancing Rock, Tiverton, Long Island, Nova Scotia. 235 steps to descend, and then climb. The Rock is a lone piece of columnar basalt left standing when all the pieces around it fell away. Locals have actually tried to pull the rock over with fishing boats; purpose uncertain. In my opinion, the best time to view it is in the morning, when the sunlight is to the east; in the afternoon, the rock becomes silhouetted.

Whale Watching - Tiverton, Nova Scotia
Visit our site:
We started off our morning in picturesque Tiverton, at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy, having a whale of a time. We met up with one of Nova Scotia's warm, neighbourly citizens, Captain Tom Goodwin.
It was a foggy, overcast morning but Tom assured us that in any weather we'd have a good time and see marine life. And holy mackerel was he was right!
The waters here are important feeding grounds for a variety of sea life, including whales and dolphins. We also saw lots of seals and birds and he also showed us a unique geological surprise when he pointed out the 'balancing rock' along the coast line. When Tom dropped us off at the dock we had enjoyed the fresh sea air, lots of great marine life and fun day out with skipper Tom!

Long Island, Nova Scotia
Due to the speed of the boat and high wind, you may want to mute your volume (or at least turn it down) - although someone does get a special shout out halfway through...
Long Island is where my family and friends have boated since I was a child. We swim here, waterski here, fish here...you name it! Hope you don't get seasick watching it :)
