Tioman Island (Malay language: Pulau Tioman) is a small island located 32 km off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the state of Pahang,[2] and is some 39 km long and 12 km wide. It has eight main villages, the largest and most populous being Kampung Tekek in the north. The densely forested island is sparsely inhabited, and is surrounded by numerous coral reefs, making it a popular scuba diving spot. There are also a lot of resorts and chalets around the island which has duty-free status.
Its beaches were depicted in the 1958 movie, South Pacific as Bali Hai. In the 1970s, TIME Magazine selected Tioman as one of the world's most beautiful islands.
The island is served by ferries from the Malaysian mainland, and a propeller plane service by Berjaya Air from the Changi Airport in Singapore and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, Selangor.
Pulau Tioman is a part of Rompin district of Pahang, although it is geographically closer to Johor, and is accessed via ferry service from the Johorean coastal town of Mersing. Within Tioman Island there are four kampungs: Salang, Tekek, Juara and Air Batang

Diving In Tioman Island
Skip to 1:41 for my actual diving experience!
My family and I spent 8 days at Tioman, Pahang, Malaysia. Of which, I spent 3 days attending the PADI Open Water Diver Course over at East Divers Tioman (Sofia By the Sea).
Here’s a short video of my SCUBA Diving experience at Tioman Island. These shots were taken during my last OW dive and my first leisure dive as a certified open water diver.
The 2 dive sites were Pirate Reef & Renggis Island.
Tioman Island is really rich in its biodiversity in the underwater world. Would really recommend this place for your next holiday! It’s pretty laid back, not as commercialised (as compared to Lombok/Phuket), and not as crowded (as compared to Bali/Krabi etc.)
On a side note, do leave some feedback on my videography and editing. Still new to Premiere Pro so constructive feedback and comments would be awesome.
Be sure to like, share and subscribe to my channel (and turn on notifications!) if you’ve enjoyed the video ????

The Tioman Impromptu
This was somewhat unplanned. I was bored at home because wifey was out of town for a conference. I just simply bought my tickets online (bus and ferry) and rush for the first ferry to Tioman. A good friend told me to go to Kampung Air Batang. Walked-in to SP Barakah Chalet for a simple RM30 room. Dived with Eco Divers ( with Dive Master Alice Lee. Got to do 2 dives; this is video for dive no. 1.

Apart from its diverse marine life, the inland rainforest area, encompassing approximately 12,383 hectares, in Tioman is a strictly enforced nature reserve. There are several protected species of mammals on the island, including the Binturong, Long-tailed Macaque, Slow Loris, Black Giant Squirrel, Red Giant Flying Squirrel, Mouse deer, Brush-tailed Porcupine, and Common Palm Civet, from a total of 45 species of mammals and 138 species of birds, including the majestic Frigatebird. Moreover, Tioman has species that are endemic to its shores. The soft-shelled turtle and the Tioman walking catfish are both unique and can be seen on rainforest walks.
The island is served by ferries from the Malaysian mainland, and a propeller plane service by Berjaya Air from the Changi Airport in Singapore and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, Selangor

LOST IN BALI: OPEN WATER PADI CERTIFICATION/ SKILL TEST AND FUN DIVE
LOST IN BALI: OPEN WATER PADI CERTIFICATION/ SKILL TEST AND FUN DIVE
Hellow my youtube friends,
I love this experience, when I finally got my OPEN WATER CERTIFICATE. for me its like an achievement. it is very difficult for me to pass the skills underwater, around 20 underwater skills that i have to pass.
These are some challenges that I have to overcome personally to pass the test:
1. Dry Throat
When we learn something new, at the same time we will know something new also about our body, I know I have problem when i have dried throat, so breathing through my mouth will make my throat dry and this will lead me to vomiting, though nothing came out, but along the dive I will be coughing and also gagging.
2. Sensitive Neck
My neck is very sensitive, I cant put anything near it, I cant wear choker necklace or else also gagging, and can you imagine that the wetsuit is with the small collar, so yes.. gagging.
3. I cant breath through Mouth only, I have to breath through the nose.
My brain is not so clever I suppose, it cant deliver the message that under the water I have to breath through mouth only and not nose. Imagine when I have to do the skills of taking out the mask and put back in the WATER! yes, lots of waters inside and this will lead me to panic and going up immediately and this is dangerous! never ever ever do this, when you are 10 meters below and going up very fast, this can erupt your Lung!. so what do I do, during this skills I have to close my nose with my fingers and slowly take out and put in my mask, so I do it very slow compare to normal human and you know that when salt water touch your eyes its pain.. at least for me.. so yes,, please imagine.
4. I cant take sway!
in the boat on the ocean, engine dead, of course the boat will sway, I can go vomit, you know seasick.
we do not really feel the sway of the buoy, especially the corals and the fishes are so so so pretty, after the dive, I feel like almost dead, headache too and getting too tired hahahah.
5. I am afraid of deep water
why? well because of ghost movie, always thing it is haunted down there heheheh and now I am entitle to dive maximum 18 meters, no I am not so afraid anymore, because I do the dive in the daytime,, so ghost will not come out yet.
6. I have cold allergy!
on the 1st day we have to be in the water ( pool) for almost 4 hours to learn and practice all the skills, I suddenly have this splitting headache on my entire forehead, suddenly, wast there before. So I cant continue, we have to stop. I browse it and find out that it was sinus headache and most probably because of the cold. See something new, I never knew this before.
so during the fun dive open water, I have to wear double wetsuit rather than sorry.
I am so lucky that Toha, our coach is very very patient and really expert and he really give me confidence and comfortable with all my shortcomes
Not to mention that my boyfriend is also very patient in helping me to overcome my shortcome.
personal suggestion, if you want to do this, do it with your boyfriend, it is more fun and good bonding.
So guys, I do diving actually to break my boundaries, to do something that I thought I am not capable of, but of course I choose the best provider to ensure that I do it safely. Bali Hai offers for this certification is very expensive compare to others, but well they give good service and all equipment is quality.
so If i can pass the test and get my certification with all above problems, for sure you can do too, so if you plan to do this and have a bit worries, dont be and JUST DO IT, it is wonderful down there.
Enjoy the videos guys.
Regards,
Senja
