SURFING IN BALI - THE DREAM SURF DESTINATION
Bali is famous for having a big variety of surf spots, ranging all the way from beginners to the pros out there. We produced, along with filmer Maria Revelj, a Bali spot guide with local surfer Kadek on where to go depending on your level of surfing.
The edit takes a closer look at Canggu; Old Mans and Echo Beach, Kuta and Legian Beach, Bingin, Balangan, Padang Padang and Uluwatu. This is just a few of the many great surf spots around Bali.

Kuta Beach Surfing in Bali
Kuta is the heart of Bali Island in Indonesia and the rock city, the most popular tourist destination. Kuta Beach is very near from Ngurah Rai International Airport in Southwest Bali. Surfing is the main attraction of Kuta Beach. I just loved the big waves here. The big waves of this sandy beach are best for surfing. Kuta Beach Surfing in Bali is must-try water sport for all adventure lovers around.
Many famous surfers from different countries especially from Australia every year visit Kuta for surfing. Therefore there are many surfing schools to teach you surfing in Kuta.

LEGIAN BEACH BALI
LEGIAN BEACH BALI
Legian is nestled between Kuta and Seminyak, and its location is a good indication of its feel. A little less hectic than Kuta, not as trendy as Seminyak.
If you want to be in the main tourist destinations of Bali, and have shops, markets, food options and the beach at your doorstep then it’s for you. If you came to Bali to see beautiful beaches or rice fields, then you’re probably best looking into Ubud, Jimbaran, Uluwatu or the North or East coast of Bali, either as an alternative or combining it with Legian.
There are plenty of things to do in Legian, including shopping, swimming, eating out, massages, and surfing lessons. At the beach end of Jalan Melasti is a large market selling traditional Balinese items and souvenirs.
Legian would be a good option if you wanted to stay in Seminyak but it was over the budget. Or if you wanted to be near Kuta but not stay right there. Legain offers great value for money.
What’s Nearby?
Depending on traffic… Kuta and Seminyak are walkable or a short taxi. Ngurah Rai International Airport is 15 mins south. Jimbaran is 30 mins south. Uluwatu is 45 mins south. Ubud is about 1.5 hrs away.
Kuta and Seminyak are close by, so you could go to Kuta to shop or go to Waterbom Park, and you can also easily access Seminyak for more boutique high-end shopping, art galleries, cafes and fine dining.
Another option is visiting Tanah Lot, a Balinese Temple on the coast. You could do a day trip to Ubud although I think staying there would be much more enjoyable. And then there is always a tasty seafood dinner on the beach in Jimbaran.
Legian Beach surf spot is commonly known as Padma, is one of a handful of fun beach breaks in Bali. Legian is better known as a tourist attraction for it’s long, smooth sand beach connecting Kuta Beach to Seminyak. Just a short trip from Kuta, Padma is easy to check out on your journey North towards other world-class reef breaks in the area like Seminyak, Airport Reefs, Berawa, or Canggu. With a very consistent set of swell, you are likely to find fun waves at Padma year-round regardless of swell. Considering it’s a beach break, you may be able to stray away from the crowd by searching out a private peak rather than paddling out to an already overpopulated line-up. Padma is a great spot for beginner, intermediate, and advanced surfers looking for quick, fun, and accessible surf.
What kind of wave is Legian Beach?
Legian is a beach break located adjacent to Kuta Beach and connects 3 kilometres of white sand beach between Seminyak and Tuban. Better known as a tourist destination fit for swimming and general recreation, the beach break is fun but not exactly world-class. Lefts tend to be a bit longer walled-out sections and rights tend to barrel under ideal conditions. Legian is a great wave for folks venturing into surfing for the first time or veterans looking for easy access to the break without the hassle of a boat ride, guided trip, or long paddle out.

Surfing for beginners in Bali - go to Old Man's beach!
If you want to learn to surf in Bali then best place to go is Old Man's beach in Canggu. The waves are not as big as some other parts of the island and you can hire a surfboard here for Rp 50,000 or $5 for 2 hours. If you like you can also hire a surf instructor as well for Rp 35,000 or $35 for 2 hours.
Most beginners come here and as you can see the beach is packed with eager surfers all wanting to master the sport. Old Man's beach is at the end of Jalan Batu Bolong and is really easy to get to. About 15 mins by taxi from Seminyak and 5 min if your staying in Canggu.
If you would like to rent a holiday villa in Canggu near Old Man's beach where you are close to all the surf action go to:

Arriving late at night in Bali caused us to stay in nearby Kuta for a night. Our main destination was distant Ubud, but we still hoped to do enough to get the gist of Kuta. Luckily, with late checkout at the Four Points Sheraton Bali Kuta, we did! Beachside brunch, massage, surf lessons, and a rooftop bar was a great start to our Indonesian adventure.

Kuta Beach and Surf Watching | Bali, Indonesia | Family Trip Ep.23
Legian Plays Its Own Tune - 17 July 2019
Overshadowed by more hip parts of Bali in recent years, Legian is pretty convienient if you're looking for fun waves and a cold Bintang on the beach. The waves aren't as serious as what you'll find to the North and South and so too the vibe on the beach is fairly light and fun.
With so many quality reefs in Bali it's easy to bypass the beach breaks (guilty here). But there's a certain feeling of freedom unique to hitting a closeout end section when you know there's sand underneath.
The locals were giving those end sections a decent workout yesterday morning. With a dropping swell and the SE trades blowing in low gear, it was a good call to mix things up with some beachie action.

BALI ADVENTURE - SURF LESSONS & SEMINYAK
I've always seen these amazing pictures of Bali and like many of you had the island as a bucket list location. The surfing, food, culture, beauty, cost, all seemed amazing! I had to see for myself what all fuss was all about!
We spent a few weeks this summer, trading one heat for another, exploring the island and doing the family thing. Of course, traveling with kids is very very different then 99% of the other Bali videos you see on Youtube. But, It's totally doable as a family and worth the travel to this special place. Of course there were things we liked and didn't, but overall had a great time!
Here is the first video from our trip. This was our first time surfing as well as first, and last time, getting a fish pedicure.
**Yes, we did the fish Pedicure, but now reading more about it now probably shouldn't have. The kids had fun and it was an experience for sure!**
WE SURFED: Double Six Beach with Santai Surf School.
We did 4 days of beginner lessons and had an incredible time with them. They were great people, great teachers, and didn't charge an arm and a leg. Definitely made the experience fun and enjoyable! Highly Recommend! Check them out here:
WE STAYED: Courtyard Seminyak. A great place for the family!
A beautiful resort, close to the beach, friendly staff, and an incredible breakfast buffet! This is not your standard Courtyard! Check it out:

Beaches on Bali Indonesia. Seminyak Beach, Kuta Beach, Legian, Canggu, Bingin, Balangan, Padang Padang, Dreamland. Bali's beaches are great. Catch a wave or simply relax!
Bali: Surfing Legian Beach (GoPro Hero 2 Footage)
Hang loose Dude! Ok..I am not at all a pro but you already get the feeling when you surf in the waves at Legian Beach. The beach break is not so crowded and the wave are constantly there. Watch the tides and you will have a wonderful experience. I caught fire already years ago but once a year is just not getting me the practise:(
Just a note for swimmers: There are really strong currents and with a surfboard you can hold onto your board. As a swimmer without a board you can drown! Surfers take the current to get out. So it is better to be in the guarded areas. And when you find surfers with helmets..they are the school and usually they stay away from the current.
