Budva Travel Guide - Montenegro Charming Experience
Budva Travel Guide - Montenegro Charming Experience
Budva is a coastal tourist resort in Montenegro. It is often called Montenegrin Miami, because it is the most crowded and most popular tourist resort in Montenegro, with beaches and vibrant nightlife. Budva is on the central part of Montenegrin coast, called Budvanska Rivijera. It has developed around a small peninsula, on which the old town is situated. It is by far most visited destination in Montenegro, attracting mostly domestic, Russian, Serbian and other Eastern European tourists with an old town, bars and nightclubs, and beaches mostly consisting of small rocks. It is base for mass tourism, while in its near vicinity there are luxury resorts such as Sveti Stefan and Miločer.
There are as many as 35 beaches in the Budva area, mostly rock and a little sand (8 beaches are marked with blue flags). During the summer in particular, the day and night-life offers opportunities to enjoy theatre plays and performances, music events and entertainment programs.
Many nightclubs use go-go dancers to attract customers, and families might be offended by the open display of almost-naked girls in the street. There is mainly one street, the main promenade, where all the action happens. Budva appears to be undergoing poorly planned, unchecked growth with towering unattractive apartment buildings and hotels being built wherever there is open space - which unfortunately includes building directly on the beach.
Some tourists may find Budva disappointing and cheesy because of the over-crowded beaches filled with chairs, umbrellas and loud music in some places. Prices for food and accommodation are also well above what can be found in less popular resorts. The old town is adjacent to the marina, where the wealthy come to moor their luxury yachts. The old town is small but beautiful, with restaurants and boutiques selling luxury goods at high prices.
If you came to Budva with your own car, use it inside the city only when you have to. Traffic is terribly congested during the summer, and parking spaces around the old town are almost impossible to find, and very expensive when you do. There are many tourist boats that dock in Budva harbor which offer rides to nearby beaches, Sv. Nikola island, or one-day trips to various destinations on Montenegrin coast, but these are also expensive. Unlike other seaside cities, there are no €1 water taxis here.
There is a wide choice of places to eat at in Budva. In old town you will find almost anything: from pizza-places, bakeries to seafood and Chinese restaurants. Across the harbor, at the very coast, there are some premium fresh seafood restaurants, notably Jadran and Donna. Along the entire promenade there are many fast food places, offering barbecue, giros, pancakes, slices of pizza, icecream etc with affordable prices. A McDonalds seasonal restaurant is open on the promenade during the summer.
Accommodation in Budva is abundant, and varies from renting a room for €10-15 to handsomely priced five-star hotels. There are big differences in prices of accommodation - not only between types of accommodation but for same accommodation during different times of the year. For example, a hostel-like room that rents for €7 per person/per night during the off-season can rent for €20 and up per person/per night during July and August.

Top best places to visit in Budva, Montenegro
Budva is a coastal tourist resort on the Adriatic Sea in Montenegro.
Budva, known for its well preserved medieval walled city, is 2,500 years old, which makes it one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast.
It is often called Montenegrin Miami, because it is the most crowded and most popular tourist area in Montenegro with beautiful beaches and diverse nightlife.
Luxury yachts dominate marina berths during the summer, overshadowing small fishing vessels owned by the locals.
Budva is blessed with many natural beaches.
A small Richard's Head Beach is just next to the old town.
Arguably the best known and most attractive of the city beaches, nested beneath the cliffs, is Mogren Beach.
Between those beaches is the Dancing Girl Statue, the most popular tourist sculpture in the city.
The best known landmark is the city’s Old Town which has complete fortifications with city gates, towers and a citadel and within the walls the entire area is pedestrian-only.
The most important structures in the Old Town are:
Church of Saint John, one of the oldest churches in the coastal region.
Built in Byzantine style with red and white stone stripes, the Church of the Holy Trinity.
And the Citadel, a fortification used to protect Budva from the sea.
The Citadel is a medieval castle built and dedicated to St. Mary, this is also the most monumental architectural object within the town walls.
From the Citadel there is a very beautiful view of the city and the sea.

Mamula Island's Former Concentration Camp To Be Transformed Into Luxury Beach Resort
Montenegro’s government has greenlit plans to transform a former World War II concentration camp into a luxury beach resort with a nightclub, spa and restaurants. The decision has been met with anger from families of those who were imprisoned on Mamula Island while it was occupied by Italian forces under the rule of fascist leader Benito Mussolini. With the goal of transforming the rocky island into a retreat for wealthy clientele, renderings show a restored fortress with an overflow pool and palm trees, VIP area, outdoor dining, a beach club, a marina for superyachts, and a dance floor for parties. Located near Montenegro’s border with Croatia, the circular island, also known as Lastavica, is in the Adriatic Sea at the entrance of the Bay of Kotor. It is dominated by a fort that was built in 1853 under Austro-Hungarian rule to prevent a naval attack. The island is uninhabited and the fortress is unused, but it was the scene of unspeakable horrors during the war, when it was converted into a concentration camp that held more than 2,000 people. Dozens of prisoners were tortured and killed, while others died of starvation. In an attempt to capitalise on interest from tourists, Montenegro’s government advertised it as an investment opportunity in December 2013 and last year agreed a 49-year lease deal with Switzerland-based Orascom Development Holding AG. At the time, the government said the €15million (£11million) project would create 200 jobs. The deal was approved this week, paving the way for the island to be transformed into a four- or five-star resort. A report by Balkan Insight said the plans have angered families of locals who were imprisoned on the island. They urged the government to reconsider, but their appeals were ignored. Before the tender was awarded, Montenegro said any development would have to comply with ‘conservation requirements’ and require government approval, as the island is protected as a cultural monument. Developers were told they would have to preserve and protect the basic form of the structure, layout and inscriptions on the façade while maintaining the cultural and historical character of the fort and the natural environment. Billionaire Samih Sawiris, chief executive and board chairman of Orascom, previously said the resort would include a museum, Balkan Insight reported, but renderings and a map on the project’s website make no mention of one. MailOnline Travel has contacted Orascom for comment. The renderings were produced by Serbian firm Salt&Water in collaboration with Sima Multimedia. Salt&Water said Mamula Island boasts one of the best preserved Austro-Hungarian fortresses in the Adriatic. In order to preserve the unique façade, ‘all potential intervention on the fortress had to be minimised,’ the studio said in a statement.

Best of Montenegro - Montenegro tourism
This vlog Includes drone footage of the bay of Kotor.
Travel video blog about Montenegro, including footages of Skadar Lake, Budva and Kotor.
Situated in the South of the Adriatic, Montenegro is a Balkan country filled with beautiful mountain ranges, clear lakes and spectacular beaches. With so many beautiful landscapes, Montenegro is fast becoming one of Europe’s most sought travel destinations.
Our Holiday to Montenegro took place in September 2016, which is the end of summer. I have to admit that I did not know much about Montenegro. I was in Milan trying to figure out the easiest way to get to Dubrovnik from there when I found $50 flights to Podgorica airport, so I booked it. Needless to say, I was pleasant surprised when I got there. From the moment we got out of the airport, my partner and I hired a car and started driving around to discover new places in this amazing country.
As you can see in the video, we first drove to Skadar Lake is located in the Zeta-Skadar valley. The views of Skadar Lake are breathtaking so I highly recommend going there, although travelers should be aware of the poor road conditions (as you can see in the movie we drove under heavy rain and the roads were very narrow, winding and had no protection rails).
From there, we headed to the famous small island of Sveti Stefan, and then onto Budva. Budva is one of most popular destinations in Montenegro, and it is more famous for its vibrant nightlife filled with many restaurants, bars and nightclubs, as well as for its iconic landmark: The Ballet Dancer Statue. The main tourists attractions in Budva are the Stari Grad, which is the old town of Budva, and the coast.
On our last stop in Montenegro we headed to the Bay of Kotor, which is a Unesco Heritage site.
The medieval town of Kotor has a lot of history and amazing views. One of the main activities in Kotor include the hike up to Kotor’s fortress which offers stunning views of the bay. I highly recommend this hike for those who are physically fit (the hike takes approximately 3 hours to reach the top and it is very steep).
