Exploring Drishane Castle and estate in Millstreet County Cork Ireland
Pictures of this and other castles in Ireland are available for sale from Shutterstock
Drishane castle built between 1436 and 1450 is now owned by The Duggan Family (who are heavily involved in Equestrian business locally but do not reside in the castle). Hard to believe but this castle accommodates over 200 asylum seekers since 1998. What a place!

Blarney Castle - County Cork - Ireland
The park and view of Blarney Castle in Blarney County Cork Ireland. Amazing and beautiful it is a must see if you ever travel to Ireland. Hope you Enjoy!!
Blarney Castle is a medieval stronghold in Blarney, near Cork, Ireland, and the River Martin. Though earlier fortifications were built on the same spot, the current keep was built by the MacCarthy of Muskerry dynasty, a cadet branch of the Kings of Desmond, and dates from 1446.
A Journey into Blarney Castle's Dungeon, County Cork, Ireland
Photos and video from my visit to Blarney Castle located in County Cork, Ireland. View the beauty of the pathway leading to the castle. A quick kiss of the stone. *There really isn't a stone. Just a castle wall. There are many rumors about things that are done to the stone but I still kissed it as I may never have the opportunity again. Next, head back down to the dungeon where I shuffled my way to the end to a small room of nothing. A bit of camera noise due to the protective case used when traveling into unknown places. And who needs a guitar and drums when you can play a harp! You'll see.

R U in Ireland exploring Castle Lyons village sights in County Cork Ireland
Castle Lyons was one of the main seats of the Barry family in the 13th century, ever since King John granted the land to William de Barry. The Earl of Barrymore took over the castle in 1627 and built a large fortified house. In the 17th century, the castle was held by the English as a stronghold against the Irish.
Castle Lyons was captured by Lord Castlehaven after the battle of Manning Ford in 1643. The castle remained a habitable building until it was destroyed by fire accidently in 1771.

R U in Ireland exploring Ballyhooly Castle County Cork Ireland
Beautifully restored castle in North County Cork, Ireland on a sunny day.
Ballyhooly Castle is situated amongst woodland on the north side of the River Blackwater near the town of Mallow in County Cork.
The original castle is a five-storey tower house with a relatively modern 20th century two storey fishing lodge adjoining the side of the medieval tower. The castle has been well maintained, and the house has been recently refurbished, making it a comfortable family home.
Ballyhooly Castle offers comfortable self-catering accommodation for up to eight guests, with three double bedrooms, two single bedrooms, and four bathrooms. The castle has a dining room, sitting room, drawing room and kitchen. A housekeeper and cleaner are on hand to look after the property, and cooking services can be provided. The castle overlooks the river offering picturesque views and pleasant walks in the nearby woods. The castle has exclusive private access to five miles of fishing on the River Blackwater, one of the best salmon rivers in western Europe. The Lakes of Killarney are within an hour drive, and other activities in the area include golf, walking, cycling and horse riding.
The castle was built to guard a ford over the River Blackwater in the 16th century. Ballyhooly Castle was occupied by the Roches until it was forfeited in the Confederate Wars when occupation passed to Richard Aldworth. The castle was restored in 1862, and the fishing lodge was added in the 1920s.

Fota Castle Cork Ireland
Fota Tower, lies on the western tip of Fota Island in Cork Harbour, in County Cork in Ireland. This building isn’t a real castle; it’s a folly.
In the 1820’s a John Smith-Barry migrated from England to Ireland. He took up residence in nearby Fota House which he had rebuilt from a hunting lodge into a large mansion in Regency Style design. An architectural fashion at the time was to have a folly (a mock castle or castle ruin) in your garden. So Smith-Barry had Fota Tower built by Cork architect John Hargrave. It was built in a Tudor Gothic Revival style on the edge of the Fota Demesne, looking out over Cork Harbour. It was used by the Smith-Barrys as a hunting lodge. During the last part of the 20th century the estate fell into disrepair. Fota House was restored but the folly was left to fall into ruin.Fota Tower consists of a main block of three bays, with a single bay block and two circular towers adjoining.
