Hot air balloon liftoff, Brugherio, close to Milan, Italy. Several balloons took off almost simultaneously to commemorate the first italian hot air balloon flight, operated 225 years before, on March 13th, 1784, by Paolo Andreani, Agostino and Carlo Gerli from nearly the same place, using a prototype built in only 24 days. Several italian and international crews gathered for the occasion, the balloon portraited here coming from Le Puy-en-Velay, a town in France twinned with Brugherio.

Hundreds of migrants rescued from Mediterranean Sea by Coast Guard | Italy
As the large-scale flight from Africa continues, the Italian Coast Guard deployed four missions through the night on June 17, 2017, rescuing 546 African migrants struggling in the Mediterranean Sea. At one point, it looked like desperate migrants were going to swarm the rescue boats, forcing the coast guard to pull away. The Guardia Costiera brought them ashore at Pozzallo, in southern Sicily. 16 of the migrants were hospitalized — 13 pregnant women, one diabetic child, one with an infected bite and another with neurological problems, authorities reported. Two were treated on the spot from gunshot wounds.

If you listen to the testimony of the survivors the number of migrants on the boat was around 700, if you subtract the bodies we have already recovered, the survivors, and dead that were recovered last April 18th, we could find in the shipwreck around 500, but looking at the dimensions of the shipwreck, we think there are around 300 or 250.

It is clear that after a year under water the cadavers are, as you can imagine, not easily recognizable. This often is automatically taken to be considered unidentifiable so we will spend less, but this is absolutely untrue, even a skeleton is identifiable - we have the teeth, the DNA, what is important is to have material to compare it to, so yes, they are decomposed cadavers, but there are still identifiable.

STORYLINE
Italian authorities on Thursday lowered by more than 200 people the estimated number of migrants who died in a 2015 shipwreck that spurred Europe to beef up its Mediterranean rescue efforts.
Survivors of the 18 April 2015 shipwreck had told investigators that the fishing boat was carrying from 700 to 800 people, most of them trapped in the hull.
Only 28 survived.
But after the ship was raised from the seabed this week and authorities got a look at its dimensions, they lowered the estimated number of passengers.
Divers had originally recovered 169 bodies and discovered another 10-11 once the resurfacing operation got under way.
As a result, Navy Rear Adm. Pietro Covino said there were likely no fewer than 300 bodies left in the hull. Combined with the 180 bodies already found, the final toll could be around 500.
Covino stressed that forensic investigators hadn't had a chance yet to enter the hull to count the bodies or start the identifying process, something that is planned for the next several days.
Cristina Cattaneo, the medical examiner from the University of Milan who will be leading the team trying to identify the bodies explained that although they are decomposed, they will still be able to use the skeletons and teeth to identify the individuals.
The presumed deaths of so many migrants in a single shipwreck sparked renewed outrage and soul-searching in European capitals, which agreed to send in EU naval reinforcements to cast a wider safety net to try to rescue the waves of migrants leaving Libya on smugglers' boats.
But given the trauma of the survivors, the lack of a ship manifest and overall chaos of the smuggling operations, the estimates often vary.

Lucky for Hannah and I, it began by staying over at the Peninusla Beverly Hills and driving up the coast in a brand new Bentley GTC.
What an unbelievable experience, and even better that we drove through Big Sur and got to see some whales and hot air ballooning on the way.
Life ain't bad!! Blessed to be able to be doing such things in this life, and with partners we truly love to work with.
