Another of Carlow's beautiful historical treasures, Huntington Castle is the ancient seat of the Esmonde family.
Built in 1625 it is an amazing place to visit.
Now in the hands of the descendants of the Esmondes, the Durdin Robertsons.
With its stunning gardens, featuring a number of specimen trees and the enchanting 500 year old Yew Walk, its a great place to visit.
Throw in the Temple of Isis, and the Tour of the House with its myriad ghosts and history and you have a great weekend destination!
Clonegal village is one of the prettiest in the country with lots more to explore around the area.

With only two options on Airbnb and not a single hotel for miles, I randomly booked an apartment on Airbnb...not realizing that not only was it attached to the 17th Century Huntington Castle, but that we would end up staying inside of it overnight! This was after our 8 day walk through the WIcklow Way on our last stop in Clonegal, read that post here:
The Huntington Castle, is also known as Clonegal Castle, is a castle in Clonegal, County Carlow, Ireland. The structure was originally a plantation castle, used for defensive purposes during the plantation of the area in the early 17th century.
