Balpakram, the Land perpetual wind or the Land of spirits, is a national park located in South Garo Hills, Meghalaya, India. It is a land of mythological importance for the Garo tribe.

Our (Garos) ancestors believe this hill to be the sort of resting place for departed souls.
In this video we explored Balpakram for just only max 4 hours In a day and then went to Deoban On the Next Day.
I have never seen such a Beautiful Landscape water Falls Streams and Canyon .
Balpakram is famous for its forest covered canyon-cum-gorge, which is now part of a National Park.

Most Important places of Balpakram National Park(Land of Spirits)
According to the forefathers of A.chik(Garo) people Balpakram is the Land of the Spirits of their forefathers. According to their beliefs the spirit of the dead person go to Balpakram (the land of the spirits.). Best season to visit The Land of Spirits is in late April or the early of may(first week). To visit Balpakram you can directly come to Tura(capital city of Garo Hills) from Guwahati by bus at night or Xylo in the afternoon. The utmost unexplored regions of South Garo Hills, Meghalaya - Balpakram National Park
Balpakram National Park is located in South Garo Hills district in Meghalaya, India.
Balpakram is famous for its forest covered canyon-cum-gorge, which is now part of a National Park. The park also includes the Balpakram plateau and adjacent forests. The area lies in the southern part of Meghalaya. Garos, the local tribe inhabiting the region, believe this hill to be the sort of resting place for departed souls. This belief is due to many strange yet natural formations, physical and biological, found in the area. The place is also known for rare flora and fauna species and marine fossils. Balpakram is a hotspot of biodiversity in Meghalaya.
Balpakram has a remnant population of the endangered wild water buffalo Bubalus arnee. An interesting feature of the area is its small population of the red panda that has generated curiosity across the world. Balpakram is an important habitat of the Asian elephant. The park has the last remaining herds of the gaur or Indian bison in Meghalaya. Elsewhere in the state only stray animals are found. There are eight species of cats, ranging from tiger to marbled cat.
Balpakram has a diverse primate population having seven species. The rare stump-tailed macaque is rarely seen but the pig-tailed macaque is often encountered. Hoolocks are well distributed all over the park except the grassy plateau.
Balpakram is also an Important Bird Area. It is an important tourist destination and is accessible from Guwahati via Tura and Baghmara as well as via Shillong and Ranikor. Besides the untouched forest in the gorge and the picturesque plateau, the panoramic view of Tanguar Haor, a Ramsar Site in northern Bangladesh are noteworthy features of Balpakram

The literal meaning of Balpakram is the land of perpetual winds. There is a great precipice or deep gorge in Balpakram and is popularly compared to the Grand Canyon of U.S.A. It is believed that here, the spirits of the dead dwell temporarily before embarking on the final journey. Balpakram is sacred to the Garos as the abode of the dead spirits. As mentioned earlier, the Garos are deeply spiritual and believe in myths as interesting and awe-some as the Greeks mythlogics. In support of their beliefs, Balpakram has many mysterious and unnatural phenomena that cannot be satisfactorily explained by modern science and logic.
Some of these mysterious sites are Boldak matchu karam, Chidimak, Matcha Melaram, Balwakol, Goera Rongjaleng, Dikkini ring, Ganchi So.ram, and many more.
Apart from the above mentioned sites there are many mysterious places which you can explore yourself. Indeed Balpakram is so steeped in myths that even the Hindus believe that it is a sacred place. They believe that when Laxman was seriously injured during the war with Ravana and a very rare life saving herb was required, Hanuman found it here but not knowing which to take also in his haste to return, broke the top of the hills and carried it away. The missing portion of that hill became a deep awning canyon. Balpakram has been declared a National Park some years ago. This place is about 220 sq kms in area. This place is not only of mythological importance but also the natural habitant of many rare and exotic animals and plant life. It is also believed to be the original home of the rare citrus plant Me-mang Narang. Balpakram is exquisitely beautiful when ground orchids are in bloom. The best time to see is from November to March. There is the guest house at Hattisil at the entrance to Balpakram run by the Forest Department.

Tura Bazaar West Garo Hills
Tura is a hilly town and a municipality in West Garo Hills district in the Indian state of Meghalaya. One of the largest towns in Meghalaya, Tura is a valley located at the foothills of the Tura Hills and right below the Tura Peak. The climate in Tura is moderate throughout the year and has a large number of interesting and unexplored areas. The native god Durama was believed to reside in the hills. The name Tura is said to be a corruption (by the British) of the god's name.
It is 220 kilometres from the nearest city Guwahati and is also the district capital of the West Garo Hills district. It is filled with small rivulets and green valleys all around. The principal languages are Garo and English. The city has 4 colleges and a host of good secondary schools. In 1973, the town was made the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tura.
The capital city of Shillong is 323 kilometres away and can be accessed via buses or the shuttle helicopter service. The border of Bangladesh Dalu, is situated at a proximity of 50 kilometres.
Tura is a cultural and administrative centre of the Garo tribes. To visit popular tourist destinations such as Balpakram, Nokrek and Siju Cave, one needs to pass through this town.
There are many water falls and lot of streams in Tura. Some of the water falls are Rongbangdare, Pelgadare, Gandrak Falls etc. Some of the streams are Rangolwari, Nokmawari, Ganol, Dachima etc.
