The day we visited in June 2007 it was so windy you had to brace yourself or be blown over. We were meant to be on a sailing week, but couldnt safely go out to sea.

It's part of a series of lighthouses and beacons dotted around the Irish coast, forming a warning system. Without electrity/gas, it is visible many miles out to sea, and shows well in moonlight.
