Feast in Style with Timothy Langston Fine Art & Antiques
'What good is the warmth of summer without the cold of winter to give it sweetness?'
Winter is traditionally a time of feasting: of using what we found and conserved from outside over the past year to create an atmosphere of warmth and merriment inside - to see us through the dark cold months.
I’d like to show you some ways to bring warmth to your interior using beautiful items to enhance and heighten your aesthetic pleasure this winter.
There’s nothing like a flame to create some atmosphere - as well as heat.… Control of fire by early humans probably dates back to Homo erectus or very early Homo sapiens. These fine late 18th century steel fire irons together with some expert firelighting skills will set the scene for your feast perfectly: the act of lighting a fire should be richly aesthetic and not just for pyromaniacs!
...And now for a glass of wine... And here’s mine now delivered playfully on this Sheffield Plate Double Coaster Trolly. This party piece glitters like the sparkling Claret it carries! Look at the elaborately gardened coasters and these fun, spoked wheels. Who could resist?
The moon has always held a fascination for me. And as the winter solstice and the ever circling years continue a pace - and the new year is upon us once more - this sumptuous moon clock casts a strange magnetic spell.
What feasting could take place without dishes?
At Timothy Langston we have a remarkable section of Chinese porcelain and also furniture to accommodate your collection. This George III dumb waiter has three graduated dish tires each with a turned trim all supported upon turned baluster columns and terminated in three generous carved cabriole legs with pad feet.
“One kind word can warm three winter months” goes the Japanese Proverb, so perhaps this Bamboo and Lacquer Picnic Box is worth the investment? It is an exceptionally fine piece with gilded lacquer and woven bamboo. This picnic basked will certainly see of your winter gloom and have you looking forward to an early spring - and picnicking season!
And finally, to celebrate a much wonderful year, and my 10th in business, let me offer you a glass of champagne from these beautiful champagne bowls: made in England in the mid-19th century. They have a hollow stem to create the effect of a fountain.
This season, Feast in style with Timothy Langston.

Kingfisher Yurt - Sawday's Canopy & Stars | Glamping near London
Read more and book at
Hidden in a private wildlife garden, the handmade Kingfisher Yurt plays host not only to local kingfishers but also ducks, moorhens, dragonflies and the odd heron. Well, the area does, the yurt is just for you. With all this wildlife and the bamboo and woodland surrounding you, the yurt feels completely secluded, but if you follow the stream for just a few minutes you’ll reach the village of Wendover, with more than enough coffee shops and pubs to keep you fed and watered throughout your stay. Of course, if you’d rather stay put, your camp comes with a private cabin housing a modern kitchen (and bathroom), so you can cook up a little something and eat out on the deck. When it starts to feel chilly, head inside and watch the flames through the glass door of the wood burner. Vibrant antique rugs and a kingsize bed covered in colourful bed linen will keep you cosy while you’ll still be able to see the sky through the central roof wheel. At less than an hour’s drive from London, and just a scenic 5 minute walk from the train station this is both a perfect spot for a quiet retreat and a great base for getting into the city.
Sawday's Canopy & Stars is an inspected and selected collection of outdoor holiday experiences with a dash of eco-panache; treehouses, hay lofts, Gypsy caravans, converted horsetrucks and all sorts of glamping oddness. There's even an Iron Age roundhouse or two! Call us on 0117 204 7830 or visit
