The market is home to many vendors, selling the produce from the sea.
Sea Shells are available – either in individual packs, but more likely to be the finished item, ranging from a few sea shell trinkets to full scale room dividers or doorway hangers.
Seafood is also available in Ban Phe Market – either as dried and processed items; fresh seafood for you to take home to cook; or you can indulge yourself by getting it cooked for you at the market.
The dried and processed seafood, will include various shrimp types, squid (of course) and other crustaceans – either caught locally, or bought in from other main seafood ports.
Ban Phe Market Rayong Province ThailandFresh Seafood is mainly Crab, or Shrimp and assorted fish.
Dried fruits can also be bought, in small or large wholesale type bags.
You will most certainly be allowed – encouraged to taste before you buy! What better service can you get than that?
Ban Phe Market – a good stopping off place on the way back from Ko Samet.
How to get to Ban Phe Market Rayong
Baan Phe is 19 km from Rayong Town. Turn right at marker 231 or 238 on Sukhumvit Rd. At about 3-5 km from the market you will smell the ‘inviting aroma’ of sea produce

Flashback Recap of Day 1: Rainy Day Issan Food
Or you can watch the full episode here:
Stop #1 - Jae for Health Restaurant (ร้านอาหารเจ เพื่อสุขภาพ) at 1:47
I have reviewed this restaurant in the past here:
Humble and cheap vegetarian restaurant in the heart of Rayong. We often visit for a quick and healthy breakfast. For the best food, come early. Vegetarian noodles are hard to find, but I think this restaurant does a great job of them and even their fake meat isn't bad with a little seasoning.
Rating: 4/5
Pros: Clean, cheap, and they speak a little English
Cons: Khao gaeng options can be hit or miss (especially if you're not there before 10am)

Stop #2: Ban Phe City at 5:47
We didn't do a whole lot here except walking around. There is a small marina with a few restaurants around. There's an aquarium a little further off, but the largest attractions for visitors to Ban Phe are the beach and the market. If you're curious there's some interesting 70's Thai architecture in the area and hopefully you'll see more of the see in the following episode.
Stop #3: Ban Phe Market (ตลาดบ้านเพ) at 6:45
Formerly known as the 'roi sao market' (ตลาดร้อยเสา or hundred vendors market) the latest incarnation of this large market names it the Ban Phe Supermarket (ตลาดบ้านเพ). This is a good place to grab everything from little souvenirs to durian chips, to stinky fermented fish paste. The best thing is it can also make a great stop for lunch or stocking up on snacks before hitting the beach. We particularly enjoyed some of the old time Thai style snacks (the one featured in this episode is called tong muan oon or khao kriap oon or ข้าวเกรียบอ่อน) and popsicles available in the market. See a little more in the following episode.
Rating: 3.5/5
Pros: Large, clean, organized, and friendly
Cons: Food court options limited and shrinking
