Banana Boat Touring in Laos
A short scenic drive from Luang Prabang takes us to a Tai Leu weaving village where we view the skillful cotton spinning and weaving, then join in the indigo dyeing process. Along with a sip of local Rice Whisky!
The following day takes us further up the Nam Ou River from Nong Khiaw to Muang Ngoy by boat visiting villages and waterfalls.
A strenuous early morning walk to the View Point in Nong Khiaw provides a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains rutting out of the rising clouds.
On the drive back to Luang Prabang we take a small detour to the Pak Ou Caves, enjoying a stunning short boat trip across the Mekong River to the caves of many Buddhas.
This is why WOW rhymes with LAOS!!
It's stunning ♥

Festival of Light Boats, Luang Prabang, Laos
Every year, at the end of the rainy season, the Boun Lai Heua Fai festival takes place in Luang Prabang. Each village in the area makes a boat which is paraded, lit by candles, through town after dark and launched into the Mekong River. People also light their own candles on banana leaf vessels and symbolically float away bad luck down the river. This film focuses on the preparations taking place in the hours before the October 2019 festival began.

In this Family Travel Vlog we leave Cambodia and head off to Luang Prabang, Laos with the kids to explore the area before Boun Lai Heua Fai or the Festival of Lights to us westerners. After a flight delay out of Siem Reap and getting in fairly late to Luang Prabang, we thought it would be best to take it easy. Our first day we wandered a bit around town and happened to run into a boat driver who gave us a pretty good deal on a Mekong River sunset cruise, so we took him up on it. The cloud cover didn’t necessarily agree with us, but it was still nice to get out on the river and see the locals on the river and its shores living as they have for generations.
On our second day, we rented some mopeds, motorbikes to the locals, to cruise up to Kuang Si waterfall. On the way, you need to stop at Phousi Market and see all the crazy stuff they have. Still disappointed that I wasn’t able to find the fabled bat on a stick. The weather was raining off and on again for us, but we made it up to the falls without incident. The waterfalls are really beautiful and the natural pools underneath the main falls are definitely unique to most waterfalls we’ve seen.
On our final day, we made it up to Pak Ou Cave. It was a bit of a haul to get to it, but we had time to kill and it was actually a pretty fun time just cruising the Mekong and looking out at the landscape. The caves themselves were ok..if we were pressed for time on a visit, this would be an easy pass. Still glad we made it up there.
Fried Bananas.
Alms for the monks and Festival of Lights are next.

???????? LAOS: MORNING BOAT RIDE THROUGH BEAUTIFUL FOGGY MOUNTAINS IN VANG VIENG | Nam Song River, Laos
I took a morning boat ride through the beautiful foggy mountains in Vang Vieng along the Nam Song River in Laos.
It was time for me to head back to Thailand today, but I woke up early so I could fit in a morning boat ride along the Nam Song River in Vang Vieng, Laos.
This morning boat ride through the beautiful foggy mountains was the perfect way to end my short but amazing trip in Vang Vieng. I definately fell in love with Vang Vieng the moment I arrived and it hasn't let me down.
It was what I expected and more. There was so many things to do in this small but amazing town. I didn't get to do everything I planned on doing, so I will definately be coming back here for more.
Thank you for watching.

Feb 2018
Price - I paid $61USD per night for this full house, for 3 adults and 1 baby.
On this trip to Vientiane, Laos, my wife, baby, and our friend, all stayed in a local Laos apartment on the bank of the Mekong River. It was a great place, in a wonderful location in Vientiane, and along the river.
The apartment is quite new, with a glass elevator. Unfortunately we stayed on the bottom floor, so we didn't have a chance to use the elevator.
We had a great stay in Vientiane and I think especially this apartment is in a perfect location in the city. Thank you for watching this living in Laos, Vientiane house tour!

Tourists, cameras, monks and alms in Luang Prabang, Laos
Luang Prabang is a city famous for its numerous temples and pagodas, and for the daily ceremony of the sunrise alms procession by monks. This is a ritual valued by many local people as a part of their heritage and spiritual tradition, but seen also by tourists as a photo opportunity. During a June 2014 visit to Luang Prabang, I witnessed the alms ceremony, and met a group of young Lao people determined to educate tourists to their town about the importance of respecting the traditions of their hosts.
For another example of insensitive behavior by tourists, see my video of a 'Long neck village' (as the tour cmpanies cll it) near Chiang Mai in Thailand (

My FAVORITE RESTAURANT in Luang Prabang, Laos!
#laofoodmovement #papayasaladluangprabang #laofood
I'd call it the best restaurant in Luang Prabang, Laos, but how do you judge if something is the best, really?
I've visited many restaurants in Luang Prabang, from high end to not high end at all and Papaya Salad Restaurant is my favorite! This place is very simple, and you can pretty much call it a hole in the whole. A lot of why Papaya Salad Restaurant is my favorite has to do with the fact that I LOVE papaya salad and this place has the best papaya salad ever. The owner makes the papaya salad herself and her padaek is top notch. Also, Luang Prabang style papaya salad is my favorite. I love the wide shreds of fresh papaya - crunching and deeelicious!
Besides the papaya salad, the sai ouah (Lao sausage), shredded pork and fried fish were also terrific. Check this place out if you're in Luang Prabang, but don't let the secret out - this place is already starting to get crowded! :)

Pak Ou Caves Laos
Trip to Pak Ou Caves from Luang Prabang Laos
Pak Ou Caves are one of holy sites in Lao; Caves have a history dating back thousands of years. Caves are packed with over 4000 Buddha icons. The caves are a shrine to the river spirit and Lord Buddha. Set in a cliff at the point where the Mekong joins the Nam Ou River. There are two caves, the lower cave called Tham Ting and the upper cave Tham Theung.
2-Day Village Trek to the Laos countryside with Green Discovery Tours (2018) / S04E07
In Luang Prabang we did the “Hmong and Khmu Village Trek” with Green Discovery Tours in Laos. It was a 2 day hike with an overnight stay in a local lao village. A hard hike, but very rewarding.
We started the day off with a short 45 minute shuttle ride and after we got some water for the hike we immediately started walking. We crossed various rivers, enjoyed the beautiful landscape and had a local lunch on a banana leaf table.
The first village we entered was very rustic. Children played in the streets and when they saw us they immediately gathered to sell us some wrist bands. Great souvenirs and beautifully made, so we bought some.
After another few hours of walk, we reached the village were we spent the night. We took a shower with the locals and afterwards prepared our dinner in a local kitchen. What a great experience.
Obviously we also walked around the little village, observing the locals in their daily life. Children were playing in the streets, all looking super happy.
The next day we got up very early, had breakfast and continued our hike, passing a few more villages before reaching our destination where we got picked up by the shuttle again.
