Ballalarayana Durga & Bandaje Arbi Falls Trek | Western Ghats of India |
Ballalarayana Durga Fort, Situated atop a hill that is 1509 metres high, the fort overlooks the town of Sunkasaale. The fort has lost its glory and stands as a distant reminder of its beautiful past. Visitors can find just a few shattered walls of the fort that still exists there as a proof of the grand structure that had once stood there with pride. In its completely ruined and dilapidated condition the fort remains as an example of an ancient structure that has been destroyed due to the lack of proper preservation.

The waterfalls can be reached only by undertaking trekking in thick forests and grass lands with the help of local guides and in summer the waterfalls goes dry. The height of waterfalls is about 200 feet.
Bandaje falls is formed by a tributary of Netravathi river and is located in a remote area of western ghats, which can be reached through trekking with the help of guides.[1] Height of waterfalls is about 200 feet. The path to Bandaje falls from Valambra goes through thick ever green forest which ends in grass lands and those who trek without guide are likely to be lost in forest.[2] To visit Bandaje Falls, there are two different routes. If you are travelling via Mangalore - Ujire, it is located 25 km from Ujire. Travel 6 km from Ujire towards Charmadi Ghat, take left at Somanthadka, travel for another 6 km, then take a right turn, and travel for 2 km to find a village named kadirudyavara, from where you can have the remote view of the Falls. However, you have to trek for 10 more km from Kadirudyavara to reach the falls.[3] Locally this falls is called as Bandaje Arbi, where Arbi means falls in Tulu language. Permission from Belthangady wildlife range office, Kudremukh national park is required to trek to Bandaje falls.

Bandaje Arbi Falls Trek | Western Ghats | 2018
Travelling shouldn't be just a tour, it should be a tale. One such chapter cherry picked from our Hikes in Karnataka.
For the love of Mountains & Forests of Karnataka ! We have been hiking over a decade and its sad to know many hiking trails have been closing down and in most of the places camping is banned. This is because of people with no respect or value for nature who have been littering places and performing irresponsible hikes.
This has resulted in many deaths and imbalance in ecology. Its understandable that the forest department has tightened their policies in the interest of protecting the Western Ghats.
Requesting all hikers to be very responsible and follow these simple things to avoid further damage:
1. Take necessary permissions from the forest department
2. Always hike in group
3. Don't litter (dah!)
4. If you find litter on your path, carry it with you back and trash it
5. No loud noises
6. All posers who go on hiking just to post pics on social media, please stay away!

Didupe Falls l Kadamagundi Falls l Didupe l Kudremukh National Park l Western Ghats
Didupe falls is a stream of water falling from great height in one step and forms a decent pond structure in the base. Here, with little difficulty, you can go beneath the water fall and take a good bath. If you would like to swim, can spend some time swimming too. But the pond formed is not very wide and deep. Hence, expect less scope for good swimming.
How To Reach - Ujire is the nearest town and didupe is 23 kms from Ujire. Take Charmadi road and in Mandajje take a deviation. Ask for villagers to guide since no sign boards are available. You will need to trek ~2 kms to reach the falls.

Didupe falls or Kadamagundi falls or Anadka falls
Didupe falls also called as Anadka falls is located nearly 2 km away from Didupe village, is a cozy and unexposed place, which has not yet grabbed the attention of the tourists. Except for the college students, hardly any tourists visit the place, may be because the falls is located in an interior place and has not been given much publicity. The best part about going to Anadka falls is that, one can opt for trekking to the nearby hills in and around Didupe. However, the village is too small and the visitors hardly can find any shop for the emergency.
For all those who are looking around for a place where one can go, spend time amidst the nature and enjoy the water fall, the location that could come handy is Didupe falls in Belthangady taluk.
The brooks running down the forest area in the Western Ghat region beautifies the landscape, appearing as though the Ghat has been decorated with some ornament. So is the Anadka falls, which has elevated the beauty of forest in Didupe village, with the crystal clear water, gushing amidst the rocky path, thus providing a magnificent view to the visitors. If the picturesque falls with the greenery in its backdrop gives picture perfect view to those who love to capture the sight in the lens, the intense waterfall without fail would persuade one to drench in the chill water, the memory of which would last for a long time.

The fact that less number of visitors visit Didupe falls has not helped the place to escape from the dirt, as the villagers complain that the visitors throw garbage in the surrounding and spoil the beauty of the falls. The liquor packs, eateries are all thrown around, damaging the serenity of the place, says one of the villagers.
Anadka falls which comes under the Kuduremukh Reserve Forest area, is maintained by the Forest Department. Though a board has been put up in Didupe instructing the visitors to visit the place only after receiving permission from the Range Forest Officer of Belthangady, most of the time, tourists knowingly or unknowingly visit the falls without seeking permission. Adding to it, no forest guard is seen near the falls to keep an eye on the visitors.
The right season to visit the falls is between November-March as the water quantity is reduced during the month of April.
How to reach?
Didupe falls is located nearly 23 kms away from Ujire. One has to go to Somanthadka via Ujire-Mudigere road, take a diversion at Somanthadka and reach Didupe. The falls is located almost 2 kms away from Didupe village. The road towards the fall is not in a good condition and preferably one can walk for 2 kms. The beautiful Kuduremukh range and Bandaje falls could be seen on the way.
Ermayi Falls | Hidden Waterfall near Bangalore
So here is the third episode of our Didupe series where we were leaving from Dinesh Anna's place and visited Ermayi Falls. It was a risky trek to reach top of the waterfall to get some good pics.. Do not try this if you are afraid of heights.
