Bannockburn | Central Otago
Spend the day with us as we visit Highland's Motorsport Park for a hot lap, Cromwell town, Mt Difficulty Restaurant, and walk the Bannockburn Sluicings.
Bannockburn Sluicings Historic Reserve
A walk around the Bannockburn Slucings Track by Cromwell. A look at the gold mining history in the area. You are also able to mountain Bike these tracks, which I wish we had done. It would have been great fun with an easy climb up if you go to the left.

Gold Prospecting slab hut
Slab Hut Creek reserve is a small DOC campsite where you are legally allowed to pan for gold in the river that runs past.
It is in a really quiet location, set in a forest environment, and features a large brick barbeque with pizza oven on the side.
It also has the distinction of being one of the very few locations where you can legally Gold Prospecting, and keep what you find. Elsewhere in New Zealand, if you don't have a prospecting license, you can't legally keep any gold that you might find, even it it is on your own land.
We visited on a miserable wet day in autumn, on our way from a West Coast storm in Greymouth to forecast sunny weather in Hanmer Springs. So, we didn't really see the campsite at its best. We'd happily come back in better weather, just for the peaceful forest surroundings.
There is not a lot of room though, so be prepared to find it already full if you're travelling in the summer holiday season.

Gold Panning Tyndrum August 2017 Day 3 Of 4 Pickers From New Hole
Here is day 3 of my gold prospecting trip to Tyndrum, Scotland August 2017. I arrive back at the hole I had been working the previous 2 days to find the water level substantially higher leaving the hole unworkable. Due to the water level I decide to fill the hole back in and find a new spot that I can work for the remaining 2 days of the trip and thankfully it turned out to be a good move. I find some nice gold pickers from the new hole with the largest piece being among the biggest I've found to date. I work the new bedrock slab deep down and under stupidly large boulders sat near it. The biggest piece comes towards the end of the day and gives reason to revisit the hole for the last day. There are gold shows throughout the day, nothing groundbreaking but consistent through the day. Day 4 will be on my channel soon and the previous days are already uploaded so visit my channel for more videos and Subscribe to follow my prospecting adventures.
