Banska Stiavnice (Slovakia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Banska Stiavnice in Slovakia.
Banská Štiavnica is one of the most beautiful cities in Slovakia and whose historic buildings form its mediaeval centre. The old town, and silver mines of the surrounding area, have been designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site. The Kammer-Hof was created by the combination of three Gothic buildings during the sixteenth century. Up until the nineteenth century, the mining chamber and the first technical university in the world were located there. The Church Of The Assumption Of Mary was built by the Dominican Order at the beginning of the thirteenth century. For the first time in this region a rib vault was raised in its construction and served as a model for further buildings. However, at the beginning of the nineteenth century the church burned down and was rebuilt in Classical style. Now its altars and paintings shine out in all their glory and highlight the deep religious faith of both miners and mine owners alike. Since 1971, the New Castle has been a museum. On one floor, musical instruments, household items and clothing. Another floor contains numerous weapons and suits of armour which were used during hostilities by the Turks. The city underwent troubled times and its prosperity had to be defended. The wealth of the city and its mining of silver made Banská Štiavnica wealthy and created its historical splendour.

Stiavnicke Bane - Banska Stiavnica - Slovakia
Videoproduction :
The municipality Štiavnické bane has its history interconnected with hard work of miners in the bowels of the earth. It is considered to be the centre of mining activities of the Banská Štiavnica region.
The first record of the village comes from the 14th century. Progressively, it has become the centre of mine surveying and the headquarters of mining authorities with high level of expertise for the age.
Mining operations such as Horná Bíberová gallery and shafts Jozef, Karol and Kristína had contributed to the discovery of technical equipment and consequently facilitated the mining activities.
A jewel of the region are tajchy, artificial water reservoirs built in the 18th century, ingeniously interconnecting brooks with mining galleries. In the past, they were used to drive mining equipment. At present, they are mainly visited for leisure. It is worth to take a swim in the Vindšachtský or Evičkin water reservoir and also Bakomi, the Great and Little Richňava water reservoir.
The growth of metallurgy and mining industry contributed to the construction of both sacral and secular buildings, bastions and fortification. In 1995, the village was listed as a conservation area.
At the end of the 19th century, a woodcarving school was established here to make toys. The village is also famous for its connection with renowned Slovak mathematicians, astronomers, engineers, intellectuals and national activists.
The attention of the visitors will be attracted by the Horná Roveň Calvary, once a centre of mining business, which also makes part of the village.
Three nature trails, built in 2005 under the project Geopark Banská Štiavnica, will help you to learn about the history and uniqueness of the village. You will discover the beauty of water reservoirs and think about the hard labor of the miners.
Picturesque environment of the village ensures a pleasant stay in nearby cosy guest houses and suites.
Feel welcome on diverse cultural events connected with friendly atmosphere and respect for traditions. Don’t miss the Carnival Parade, the Woodcarver’s Day or Burial of a bass.
Find out more about culture and history in the magazine Piargske zvesti.
As every good village, we have our football club and a primary school, being the first to teach falconry as a compulsory subject.
Štiavnické bane is an unparalleled village soaked with mining industry and kindness which is certainly worth a stay.

Bethlehem in Banska Stiavnica, Slovakia
This is a room-sized, hand-carved miniature version of the town of Banska Stiavnica, Slovakia, integrated with scenes from Bethlehem. The town puts on a lavish processional to celebrate the Nativity of Christ, every year at Christmas time. This includes a procession up a nearby hill to the shrine called Calvary. There are 7 smaller shrines along the route.
The carving has hundreds, perhaps over a thousand, of figures, depicting the history of the town and its origins as a medieval silver and gold mining center. Scenes include all the occupations one might find in such a town: miner, butcher, baker, weaver, spinner, miller, warrior, priest, etc. The buildings of the town are carved here, filled with various figures and historical events. Several of the scenes, such as this one, move. The clacking sound is from the scene depicting the crushing of rock as it comes from the mines.
The carving is not finished and continues to grow over time as the carvers complete more figures and scenes.
This is a retail establishment, as well as a tourist destination. They sell carvings of creches and other Slovakian folk items.
Banska Stiavnica A Magic World
UNESCO World Heritage Site
Banská Štiavnica is a town in the centre of an old volcano. From the depths of the earth, rich veins of precious metals and rare minerals erupted to the surface. Thus this place was predestined to become an area of long and intensive coexistence between people and mountains. Amidst these mountains a city grew. The hard work of man left behind deep but uniquely harmonious traces in the landscape, and vice versa: steep and rugged, but picturesque country formed the soul and faces of the people. Here man and nature merged into one. It's a magical and mystical place, a portal to treasures of the earth.

Slovakia Tourism Music Video Tour - Unravel Travel TV
The Capital of the Slovak Republic Bratislava, also referred to as the Beauty on the Danube can not only boast interesting history but it also is the centre of the most dynamically developing region of central Europe at present.
Slovakia is after Austria the second country in the middle Europe with the largest amount of forests? Almost 40% of its territory is covered by forest, while in Austria it is only 6% more.
Bratislava and Vienna are two closest located capitals in Europe. There is only less than 60 km between them. According to some sources, the European geographical central point is considered to be near the roman-catholic church of St. John the Baptist above the village of Kremnické Bane.
Slovakia has many winter resorts with beautiful natural views. Downhill skiers, snowboarders, free ride and free skiing devotees, ski-mountaineers, cross-country skiers but also little beginners in ski kindergartens can have their field day. If you cannot ski - it doesn´t matter - you can go sledging, try winter hiking, bobsled tracks or just frolic with children in snow. It is never late to begin.
