Bantay Church

The Saint Augustine Parish Church, commonly known as Bantay Church, is a Roman Catholic church in Bantay, Ilocos Sur in the Philippines. The church was dedicated to St. Augustine of Hippo. It is also known as the Shrine of Our Lady of Charity (Shrine of Nuestra Señora de la Caridad) housing the miraculous image of Virgin Mary as Our Lady of Charity, crowned as the patroness of Ilocandia on January 12, 1956.


Bantay Bell Tower
One of Vigan’s most iconic symbols is the Bantay Bell Tower. First built in 1591, it served as the town’s watchtower before being turned into a bell tower by the nearby church in 1857. Located roughly 10 minutes from the town of Vigan, it’s located in the town of Bantay, Ilocos Sur.
It has looked over the town of both Bantay and Vigan for centuries, and was known as Diego and Gabriela Silang’s favorite date spot during the 17th century. The bell tower is situated on a hill, making it the best vantage point for those who were assigned to watch over the towns of Vigan and Bantay.

*Getting to the top of the bell tower is not as hard as you may think. You’ll need to sign a guestbook just before the entrance to the location of Bantay Bell tower. You can also donate any amount you wish before entering to ensure the bell tower is taken care of.

From there, a short walk is the only thing that separates you from the bell tower. Before you go up, make sure you take photos of you and the bell tower!

Bantay Watchtower | a stop through Vigan (Ilocos Sur) ????????

The Bantay Watchtower. On our way to the most northern part in the Philippines, we passed by Vigan: a charming little city in the beautiful Ilocos Sur province. There we visited the Bantay Watchtower, and we had a nice drone flight around the tower as well. ????

The Bantay Watchtower, or Bantay Church Belltower, served as a watchtower for pirates back in the Spanish colonial era. The tower was established in 1591, and got rebuild in 1950 after it was heavily damaged after World War II.

I hoped you liked this vlog. Being this is vlog 15, the next two vlogs will be shot in Ilocos Norte. Being this vlog was a nice stopover in Ilocos Sur, we were in fact heading towards our final destination in the upmost northern province in the Philippines: Ilocos Norte.
