Exploring Banteay Srei at the Temples of Angkor (Phnom Dei), Siem Reap Province, Cambodia
In this travel video we take a long tuk-tuk journey to explore Banteay Srei at the Temples of Angkor, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia nearby the hill of Phnom Dei. Waking up early at 4:40 am we were hopeful we'd be one of the first people to arrive to the temple before it became flooded with tourists. We were pleasantly shocked (more like ecstatic) over the fact we were indeed the first to arrive! This temple is one of the more elaborate and decorative and was a complex we didn't want to share with lots of other tourists all at the same time. Having the chance to explore by ourselves allowed us to capture things we never would have had we came later. For example, we were given access to a VIP tour of normally gated off areas. All in all, this was easily one of our favorite temples.

Walking up early in the morning certainly has its advantages. We are the first people to arrive at this temple Banteay Srei.
This is one of the temples we've been most excited to visit and we are officially the first ones here.
Here we are inside the temple. This happens to be a Hindu temple and it is dedicated to the God Shiva.
Most of the temples of Angkor were commissioned by powerful Kings but this temple in particular was not. It was commissioned by a Brahman, which makes it quite unique.
Because we came here early we got a VIP tour. Normally these areas are gated off as you can see by the white perimeter here and the rope. Look at where we are - Yeah!
The advantages of being the first on site can't be underestimated. I mean, anything to avoid those package tourists is a good idea.
There are many temples to choose from but this one in particular Banteay Srei is considered to be the crown jewel of Angkorian art because it has some of the most exquisite and intricate carvings.
This temple is located very far away from Siem Reap. We had to travel over an hour in a tuk-tuk and I slept most of the way but I hear it was a very scenic journey. Yes?
Along the way we passed a lot of rural villages. We saw locals out doing various kinds of activities early in the morning - some farming related and some business. We saw bikes packed to the total brim full of stuff. We saw a lot of different things and it was just a really cool trip to get out here.

Twenty kilometres north east of Angkor Thom are the remains of the ancient sanctuary of Bantey Srei that is also known as, ‘The Women’s Citadel’. To many visitors to Cambodia this unique and atmospheric temple site is the most impressive of all the country’s historic monuments. It captivates not so much by its size which, compared to many other of Cambodia’s religious sites is comparatively small, but by its exceptional charm.The most sacred area of the temple is surrounded by what are referred to as ‘libraries’, long buildings the significance of which is unknown. However it is clear that these mysterious buildings once served an important function as they are to be found within each of Cambodia’s Khmer temples. More than a thousand years after its creation the Banteay Srei Temple still contains the rich cultural inheritance of the Khmer people.

After my awesome visitation to Angkor Wat in the previous, my family and I decided to go to Banteay Srei/ Banteay Srey Temple. It is arguably the most beautiful temples in Siem Reap and maybe nation wide. It is older than Angkor Wat by hundreds of years but still stands beautifully. The intricate carving of the stone is everything beyond imaginable. This is a must-see area that you wouldn't want to miss after Angkor Wat. Take your time and learn about its history. It is absolutely breath-taking. The journey from Angkor Wat to there and from the town centre is quite long. Across the village, you will face so many thing. I hope you enjoy this episode and that I have covered all the basics. Next episode will be on another temples hopping! Siem Reap, the entire city is a cultural heritage of Cambodia.
Angkor ruins, best exemplified by Angkor Wat, represent the brilliant culture of the Khmer from a thousand years ago. However, the ruins of Angkor today are damaged from wartime and robbery that the glorious appearance from the past can no longer be found at the sight. This production covers the ongoing restoration project to reproduce the glory of Angkor ruins from the long past.
The reproduction of the City of Gods
A thousand years ago, the kings of Khmer of Cambodia served gods and also wanted to become divine themselves. For the sake of gods they serve, and to become close to those gods, the Khmer kings built temples. From Jayavarman VII뭩 Bayon temple to Suriyavarman II뭩 Angkor Wat, all of the constructions are magnificent. However, people's greed and selfishness damaged the ruins and erased the glory of the past, and today, nations from around the world stepped up to revive the ruins of Angkor.
An injection for stones, a cure solution for stones?
The Khmers used the building method of laying one stone upon another, without the use of glue or anchor. The collapsed stones from war and robbery damages shattered in pieces, wore out, and lost structures as they were bearing through the long period passed. Seeking the best use of the remaining stones for restoration through a lot of research, professional restorers came up with a solution: 'inject a shot on the stone!'
Angkor is a hydraulic city
A city floating on the water, Angkor. This means that water essentially controls the fate of Angkor ruins. Decreased precipitation and increased number of tourists threaten the safety of Angkor ruins. The direction professionals took to protect the ruins is to follow how ancestors set up the whole system to function. What was the project the Khmers from a thousand years ago established that enabled the city to keep the structural safety of the city?

In the past, Angkor ruins' biggest threats used to be robbery and war; however, in recent years, are the tourists.
Old temples have a risk of damage just from a lot of people walking around the sight, and tourists?constant touch wears out the ruins. If these patterns continue for many years, the ruins might eventually lose its shape completely. Professionals are working hard to protect the Angkor ruins, and we question what we need to do to help the same goal.

Si trova a circa 35 km dalla famosa area di Angkor, vicino alla collina di Phnom Dei, circa 25 km a nord-est del principale gruppo di templi di Yasodharapura (una della capitali dell'Impero Khmer che si sono succedute nel tempo) e dall'Angkor Thom.La maggior parte del tempio è costruito in arenaria rossa e le colonne e le pareti interne presentano un numero incredibile di accuratissime decorazioni ammirabili ancora oggi. Gli edifici stessi sono miniature in scala, molto particolari nell'ottica degli standard delle costruzioni khmer. Admission Fees : To be able to enter the premises of Angkor, you need to have a ticket. The ticket price is one-day ($20), three-day ($40) and seven-day ($60). The ticket is personal and not transferable, will be also printed a photograph our (taken at the time of pick up the ticket at the box office).
Timetable for visit Temples : Visiting hours are 5:00AM - 6:00PM. Angkor Wat closes at 6:00PM, Banteay Srey closes at 5:00PM and Kbal Spean at 3:00PM. Always carry your ticket. It will be checked upon each park entry and at major temples.

SECRET CAMBODIA TEMPLE - Banteay Srei - Avoid The Crowds of Tourists
If you're in Siem Reap you MUST see Angkor Wat! There are also more far flung temples off the beaten track - like the beautiful Banteay Srei. It is a stunning pink temple that can be visited in a day trip from Siem Reap city. But is it worth the additional time and cost of visiting? And if you do want to visit, how do you organise a cheap independent trip without blowing your budget?
If you are attracted to lesser known temples, want to avoid the crowds of tourists and get off the beaten track, then this is the place for you.

Banteay Srei Temple - Angkor - Siem Reap - Cambodia 15/18
Siem Reap (Khmer: ក្រុងសៀមរាប) is the capital city of Siem Reap Province in northwestern Cambodia. It is a popular resort town and a gateway to the Angkor region.
Siem Reap has colonial and Chinese-style architecture in the Old French Quarter, and around the Old Market. In the city, there are museums, traditional Apsara dance performances, a Cambodian cultural village, souvenir and handicraft shops, silk farms, rice-paddies in the countryside, fishing villages and a bird sanctuary near the Tonle Sap Lake, and a vibrant, cosmopolitan drinking and dining scene.
Siem Reap today—being a popular tourist destination—has a large number of hotels, resorts, restaurants and businesses closely related to tourism. This is much owed to its proximity to the Angkor temples, the most popular tourist attraction in Cambodia.
Angkor Wat (Wat temple) is the central feature of the Angkor UNESCO World Heritage Site containing the magnificent remains of the Khmer civilization. Angkor Wat's rising series of five towers culminates in an impressive central tower that symbolizes mythical Mount Meru. Thousands of feet of wall space are covered with intricate carving depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. The most important are the Carved Bas reliefs of the Hindu narratives. They tell a story about gods fighting demons in order to reclaim order which can only be achieved by recovering the elixir of life known as amrita. The gods and demons must work together to release it and then battle to attain it.
Angkor Thom is an inner royal city built by Jayavarman VII, the Empire's famed 'Warrior King', at the end of the 12th century and is renowned for its temples, in particular the Bayon. Other notable sites are Baphuon, Phimeanakas, The Terrace of the Elephants and The Terrace of the Leper King. The city can be accessed through 5 city gates, one on each cardinal point and the Victory Gate on the eastern wall.
A number of significant temples are dotted around Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom within the Angkor Archaeological Park, including Ta Prohm, Preah Khan, Banteay Kdei, Phnom Bakheng, Ta Keo, Ta Som, East Mebon, Pre Rup and Neak Pean. These temples may be visited along the grand circuit or the small circuit routes. Other sites are the Roluos group of temples located to the east of Siem Reap.

Banteay Srei Temple - Part of Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap Cambodia
Banteay Srei can be combined with a number of tours. Many guests decide to combine a trip to the temple with the Grand Circuit Tour. The Cambodian Landmine Museum and the Butterfly Centre are also nearby. Most people will either take a tuk tuk or a taxi to get to Banteay Srei. Banteay Srei is located about 35km away from Siem Reap. You can head out through the Angkor Park via Srah Srang and Preah Dak and then head north along Road 67. Banteay Srei temple is one of the most popular temples in Siem Reap. It’s known as the “lady temple” or the “pink temple” and is a 10th century Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. For me this is the most beautiful, well preserved and detailed temple in angkor archeological park (which the main is angkor wat).

This temple is make of pink sandstone. Isn't is simply stunning! This was one of my favorite temples in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It is smaller and the detail is absolutely gorgeous!

Cambodia Waterfall and Temples including Banteay Srei north of Angkor Wat & Siem Reap
Fourth video in my mini Cambodia Travel Video series to show you Siem Reap, Angkor Wat and some of the temples and tourist sights around Angkor City. In this video I take a remork to a waterfall in Kbal Spean, about 2 hours north of the main Siem Reap and Angkor Wat complex. The area is beautiful and filled with butterflies. From the ticket entrance gate it is a 1.5km hike through the forest to the waterfall where there are carvings in the water and an imprint of Buddhas foot.
I paid an additional US$4 onto my day trip so that I could see this and also spend time exploring some of the temples north of Angkor Wat and Siem Reap, including one of my favourite temples of Angkor Banteay Srei.
Ask your remork driver for advice and take time to go and explore some of the lesser known temple ruins of Cambodia and Angkor.
