Bantock House - The Ground Floor
Baldwin and Kitty Bantock's style shines through on the ground floor, with an abundance of patterned wallpapers, decorative glass, and wood paneling. Many of the items on display are from their own collection, including a stunning japanned cabinet, a carved ivory chess set and pieces of English porcelain.
The Dining Room has been furnished to represent what the Bantock family's dining room might have looked like one hundred years ago. Take a seat and flip through albums that tell the stories of the house and its occupants.
In the Bantock's tranquil drawing room, you can find out about Baldwin and Kitty's love of gardening. Relax and take in the views of the gardens, which have been restored to Baldwin's original designs -- and remember to look out for a surprise in the paddock where the family used to keep Highland cattle!
Before making your way upstairs, you are invited to settle by the cosy inglenook fireplace in the lobby and browse through our collection of books about Arts & Crafts design.

An Introduction to Bantock House
Welcome to Bantock House, an urban oasis that offers a chance to explore life in an Edwardian home and discover the secrets of Wolverhampton's rich history.
The house is named after Baldwin and Kitty Bantock. They lived here 100 years ago. On the ground floor, you can discover more about the Bantock family and the way they lived. Take your time and browse through family albums, peek inside bureau drawers and soak up the Arts and Crafts inspired decor.
Upstairs, the focus shifts to the men and women who shaped Wolverhampton and the industries they created. In addition to our newly-restored Billiard Room, we have a fantastic new Community Gallery. On this floor you will find displays featuring items from our exquisite Decorative Arts collection, including locally-made enamels, steel jewellery and japanned ware.
We also have temporary exhibitions all year round, so there is always something new to see.

Bantock House - The Gardens
Gardening was one of Baldwin Bantock's greatest passions. He won many prizes for the begonias he grew in his greenhouse, and also redesigned the gardens that surround the house. His style owed a lot to the fashions of the day which focused on natural and informal planting, as practiced by the famous garden designer, Gertrude Jekyll.
Wandering through the gardens today, you can see the different spaces Baldwin created and which have now been restored to his original designs. One of his first projects was to transform the old farmyard at the back of the house into a charming sunken garden called the Dutch Garden.
He also planted the Rose Garden, where you can see an array of beautiful roses with evocative names such as Blythe Spirit, Chapeau de Napoleon and Glamis Castle. The colourful flower borders of the House Garden were designed to provide a cheery view from the house.
The paths and pond of Baldwin Bantock's Woodland Garden have also been restored and now form part of the nature trail around the park.

Places to see in ( Wolverhampton - UK )
Wolverhampton is a city and metropolitan borough in the West Midlands, England. Historically part of Staffordshire, the city of Wolverhampton is named after Wulfrun, who founded the town in 985, from the Anglo-Saxon Wulfrūnehēantūn (Wulfrūn's high or principal enclosure or farm).
Wolverhampton grew initially as a market town specialising in the woollen trade. In the Industrial Revolution, Wolverhampton became a major centre for coal mining, steel production, lock making and the manufacture of cars and motorcycles. The economy of the city of Wolverhampton is still based on engineering, including a large aerospace industry, as well as the service sector.
Wolverhampton lies northwest of its larger near-neighbour Birmingham, and forms the second largest part of the West Midlands conurbation. To the north and west lies the Staffordshire and Shropshire countryside. Wolverhampton city centre falls outside of the area traditionally known as the Black Country, although some districts such as Bilston and Heath Town and the Willenhall side of Wolverhampton fall within the Black Country coalfields, leading to confusion as to whether the entire city falls within the region.
Wolverhampton city centre forms the main focal point for the road network within the northwestern part of the West Midlands conurbation, and out into the rural hinterland of Staffordshire and Shropshire. Wolverhampton's first railway opened in 1837, with the opening of the Grand Junction Railway, the first long-distance line in Great Britain. The main station for the city was, however, not located in the city centre, but at Wednesfield Heath, now Heath Town on the east side of the city. Buses in the city are run commercially by a number of bus operators, the largest provider of services is National Express West Midlands. As well as serving suburbs of the city, buses from the centre of Wolverhampton also provide a direct link with the city of Birmingham and connections to Walsall, Telford, West Bromwich, Stourbridge, Cannock, Sedgley, Bilston, Bloxwich, Bridgnorth & Dudley.

Discover Wolverhampton's hidden heritage - Wolverhampton Archives
People can go behind the scenes at some of Wolverhampton's historical sites as the ever-popular Heritage Open Days programme returns this September.
The free, four-day event includes guided tours of Banks's Brewery, Barnhurst Sewage Works, the City Archives, Grand Theatre, Lighthouse Cinema, Tettenhall College and Wolverhampton Art Gallery. There will also be special talks at Bantock House Museum, Compton Hospice and in the Mayor's Parlour.
St Peter's Church, Darlington Street Methodist Church, St Chad's and St Mark's Church and All Saints' Church will be open to the public with staff on hand to answer questions about the buildings and their past, while people can also visit the National Trust's Wightwick Manor and Moseley Old Hall for free.
New to the 2013 programme will be a guided tour of Bilston Town Hall, guided walk around Wolverhampton's city centre heritage and an opportunity to see the medieval tower at St Leonards Church, while a special blue plaque will be unveiled at West Park.
Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Communities, said: The Heritage Open Days programme allows people to delve into Wolverhampton's past and discover unknown secrets about the city.
There are numerous opportunities to learn about industry, art, faith and sport across the city and with, most of the events being guided, it gives people the chance to ask questions and really learn something new about the city.
We want the people of Wolverhampton and in the surrounding areas to see places that aren't normally open to the public or at least enjoy access to popular buildings for free with this series of events so that they can unlock the history to Wolverhampton.
Heritage Open Days runs from Thursday to Sunday, 12-15 September, 2013.
