Hangzhou Baochu Pagoda

Hangzhou weekend getaway - west lake and Longjing
Hangzhou - weekend getaway
I propose to travel at cherry blossom blooming and tea harvest time around March.
The main highlight is the West lake 西湖 Xi hu with its 10 sight seeing highlights as the Hangzhou tourist office states.
My pick you’ll see in the video are Baochu Pagoda 保俶塔, Precious stone hill, some of the bridges and the most important Leifeng Pagoda 雷峰塔 in the south of the lake with the photo point from the 1 yuan bill. You can cross the lake with various ferries from all corners of the lake.
The second highlight of the Hangzhou area is the Longjing tea. At sunday it took 1.5h taxi ride to get out of the city and to the small village to start a beautiful hike through the mountains watching the worker troops picking newly grown green leave from the tea tree. After our hike we enjoyed trying the herbal flavor of the freshly roasted green tea.
Coincidentally an old villager was searching the soil for freshly grown Bamboo shoots or named Bamboo sprouts 竹笋, a speciality at this time of the year. You can compare it to asparagus from my taste.
The end of the weekend we discovered the Qinghefang historic quarter and it’s Hefang Street to wonder through bustling crowds and having some typical Chinese snacks.
Overall a great trip and weekend... highly recommended for all china visitors. Enjoy traveling
Hiking Precious Stone Hill or Baoshi Mountain (Hangzhou's West Lake - Day 2)
Precious Stone Hill / 宝石山 is over 200 meters (656 feet) high. Its scenic feature are the many red rocks spreading all over the slopes of the hill, which sparkle like diamonds inlaid in the rosy morning or evening sunlight (Ten Scenes of The West Lake - Precious Stone Hill Floating in Rosy Clouds).
The Baochu Pagoda / 保俶塔 is a pagoda located just north of the lake on top of Precious Stone Hill. Its small base supports seven stories (45 meters) and gives it a distinctively slender and elegant appearance.
The name Baochu, translated directly, means protect Chu, who, legend has it, refers to Qian Chu, the last king of Wuyue. As the story goes, one of King Chu's ministers had the temple constructed for prayers to be said for his safe return from a trip he had taken to Kaifeng, in central China. He had been summoned there by the Emperor and had been gone many days with no news of his return.
It was originally constructed in 963 and stood nine storeys tall. Its most recent reconstruction, in 1933, left it slightly shorter, seven storeys, and it has most recently had its lantern replaced on its top, though its previous one is on display near the pagoda. It is constructed of brick and stone and contains no internal staircase. The tower lies next to a path that runs the length of West Lake's northern mountain range and is accessible by both dirt paths and cement stairs from nearly every side of the mountain.

2018 China: Hangzhou - West Lake
'Sunny water waves its glow,
Misty rain tricks the hill.
Plainly or gaily decked out like Xi Zi,
West Lake is always alluring.'
These are the words composed by the famous Song Dynasty poet Su Dongpo (960-1127). In this poem, he compared the West Lake to Xi Zi, one of the four beauties in ancient China. These poetic sentiments depict the charm of the lake which has always been a beautiful and romantic spot since ancient times.
Measuring 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) in length, 2.8 kilometers (1.7 miles) in width, and 2.3 meters (7.5 feet) in average depth, the lake spreads itself in an area totaling 6.5 square kilometers (2.5 square miles). Embraced by mountains on three sides, the West Lake knits itself into the North Inner Lake, the Yuehu Lake, the West Inner Lake, the South Lake and the West Outer Lake by the fabric of the Bai Causeway, the Su Causeway and the Yang Causeway. Between the North Inner Lake and the West Outer Lake lies the largest natural island called the Solitary Hill. In addition, three man-made islands stand in the West Outer Lake: the Lesser Paradise Island, the Mid-lake Pavilion, and the Ruangong Islet; and two famous pagodas by the lake: the Leifeng Pagoda to the south and the Baochu Pagoda to the north. Nowadays, West Lake is one of the top ten scenic areas in China, getting listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2011.
