Baoding Military Academy was a military academy based in Baoding, China, in the first two decades of the 20th century.For a time, it was the most important military academy in China, and its cadets played prominent roles in the political and military history of the Republic of China.The Baoding Military Academy closed in 1923, but served as a model for the Whampoa Military Academy, which was founded in Guangzhou in 1924.During the Second Sino-Japanese War, half of 300 divisions in China's armed forces were commanded by Whampoa graduates and one-third were Baoding cadets.

Chiang grew up at a time when China suffered military defeats and disasters. In 1906, he decided to pursue a military career. He began his military training at the Baoding Military Academy in 1906. In 1907, He left for Tokyo Shinbu Gakko, a junior military school. After graduating, Chang served in the Imperial Japanese Army from 1910 to 1911.

Baoding, Zhaoguanzou Village Kungfu
Zhaoguanzou village martial arts.
Zhaoguanzou is located in Gaoyang County, Boading prefecture, of Hebei province.
Like many village styles the martial arts of Zhaoguanzou are a mixture of many of the styles historically practiced in the area. The art seems to be mainly based on BaFan Quan / MianZhang FanZi styles which are common in Baoding and Gaoyang in particular.
Unfortunately as you can see from the video none of the children or younger people in the village are learning these arts. The youngest practitioners are in their mid to late 30's and the people who still practice expect that the traditional kungfu of their village will have completely disappeared within a couple decades.
The martial arts of Hebei have always benefited from it's location next to Beijing and the many great masters who have always been drawn there. Traditionally Hebei has always produced far more graduates of the Imperial Military Exams than any other province in China, Not surprisingly given it's location and longstanding military tradition, the martial art most associated with the name Baoding is the ancient military grappling style of Shuai Jiao. The Baoding style is known for it's speed and combat effectiveness, and it is this art that Cheng TingHua the legendary Bagua master originally studied.
Aside from wrestling Baoding is home to a large number of kungfu styles. In particular it is known as the home of both the ChuoJiao and BaFan Quan / BaFan Men (FanZi Quan) styles.
Among the counties of Baoding prefecture Gaoyang is one of the best known for it's martial arts. Many of the famous styles from this region of Hebei can be found here. However there are two unique styles which originate within Gaoyang. The first is MianZhang FanZi Quan which is a unique branch of the Ba Fan Men style that is popular throughout Baoding. The second is the Duan Quan style, originally referred to as MianZhang DuanDa. According to tradition this style was originally practiced in the Jiangsu - Zhejiang area. It was brought from there during the 1700's by a master who passed it on to the people of Gaoyang. Duan Quan is not a well known style and today remains very rare. It is only practiced in Gaoyang, a couple of other small areas of Baoding and by a small number of people in Cangzhou.

The Chinese villages attempting to self quarantine
Small villages in China are barricading themselves in against the coronavirus. They are not acting on government orders but taking matters into their own hands.
Villagers have set up checkpoints that mimic the official versions you have to cross as you enter the province, screening people's temperatures.
Handwritten signs at street entrances say: No outsiders allowed in. Others have taken it further: at Xikangzhuang village in Baoding, they have built entire walls out of brick.

Schoolgirl almost blinded as sausage skewer thrusts into eye
A 7-year old girl in north China’s Hebei Province was nearly blinded after the skewer of a sausage she was eating accidentally impaled into one of her eyes.
The girl, known as Yiyi, was having the snack in a compound near her home in Baoding City on Oct. 6 when she somehow thrust the bamboo stick into her own left eye.
Yiyi’s mother, who was at home preparing lunch, rushed outside at the loud cry from her daughter.
Yiyi was sent to one of the best hospitals in the city, where doctors carefully removed the skewer which had penetrated the skin and became lodged between the eyeball and the eyelid.
The child was found to have suffered no permanent injury or loss of sight after the 10-hour ordeal.
Doctors say Yiyi was extremely fortunate that the stick narrowly avoided her eyeball, and that the result could have been catastrophic if she was not treated in hospital timely.
