Oldest wooden structure in southern China to be repaired

A 1000-year old temple hall in China is going to be repaired. It's the oldest surviving wooden structure at Baoguo Temple, a Buddhist temple located in eastern China's Ningbo city in Zhejiang Province.

As one of China's oldest cities, the city has witnessed the rise and fall of numerous dynasties. It also represents the birthplace of Hemudu Culture, which itself has a history of over 7000 years. These early civilizations lived and thrived in the area, and have contributed greatly to make the city what it is today; an economically-developed, modern city with a profound cultural foundation.

Ningbo is a city with strong Buddhist connections boasting a number of visually-impressive, historical temples. The 1700 year-old Asoka Temple houses the rare Buddhist relics of Sakyamuni, who is the founder of Buddhism; the Tiantong Temple, with a history of over 1600 years, is renowned for its fantastic scenery and subtle architectural style; and the Baoguo Temple boasts one of the best-preserved wooden structures of its type in the country.

Ningbo has been an important port city for foreign trade since the Song Dynasty (960-1279). After the Opium War (1840-1842), it became one of the top-five ports in China, successfully utilizing its favorable location for water transport. Today, despite its well-developed economy and infrastructure, it remains surrounded by charming natural scenery.

峨眉山報國寺沿普賢殿側邊石階而下出大門 Bao Guo Temple Emeishan, Sichuan (China)

沿普賢殿石階而下,至七佛殿右側,是峨眉山佛教協會,再下至大雄殿右側,為新建的“ 祇園”,是接待國內外佛教團體和講經的地方.通過隔牆圓門,便是“花影亭”,裡面有池有亭,有珍貴的花木.再步出彌勒殿前,左有1993年新建的鐘樓,法物流通處,右有鼓樓和茶園.

2008 June 19 Back to Mt. Emei for a second trip, this time I took a video of the chant/ritual/ceremony (what's best to call it?) at Baoguo Temple. I probably wasn't supposed to be filming, but I wanted to show the world the beauty of what we as students witnessed while in China. Seeing real people engaged in spiritual harmony is an interesting sight to behold. The would sit and chant for a long time, and we could watch them quietly.

寧波前童古鎮，被兩山一水環繞，風水非常好。古鎮在宋朝進入繁盛時期，根據北宋的寧波保國寺木結構的靈感，建築師王灝全部用木頭，蓋了一個超美的民宿。建造過程，遵循匠人打磨的精神，每一個木構件都經過三次以上的打磨，力求展現木頭最溫潤的質感。在這個滿屋飄著木香的房子裏，人住得隨性、寧靜、舒心。

This is a very short video that I decided to do with some of the pictures I took in Tiantong Temple (天童寺), in Zhejiang Province, P. R. of China.
This temple is considered one of the main Zen Buddhist temples in the country. The landscape surrounding it is very beautiful as well.

A Day in the Life of a Monastery Cangzui | 寺廟倉最的一天

The monastery is a community in itself that is well-organized and has its own system. Take a peak into the life at a Tibetan Buddhist monastery and understand the different roles of these administrators.

This video took a very long time to make because I needed to triple check that the translations were correct. It wasn't easy communicating with and interviewing others who only spoke Tibetan. The main purpose of this short interview to better understand the various roles and how the community works within the monastery.

As of this video release, new Cangzuis have already been voted for. This video is dedicated to those who have served and continue to serve the monastery.

#路邊真的隨便買隨便好吃！餅類、米線、小吃、臭豆腐......，我還沒吃到地雷過！

#唯一的地雷是：便利商店的咖啡，稀又沒味道，不要買！！(其他都好吃到爆炸！)

#合肥人的口頭禪是：沒事兒~~(尾音捲舌。)，我好喜歡這句喔！

#合肥的廁所有門，而且也沒有多髒，請不要相信沒來過的人說的話：「沒有門、很噁心很髒。」，沒有好嗎？有門！雖不至於華麗乾淨，就跟台灣觀光區的廁所差不多。唯有親身走過一次，才知道每個國家的真實。

#旅行的意義之一，是用自己的雙眼與雙腳，看過並感受真實。

保國寺是中國江南倖存的最古老最完整的木結構建築。占地面積1.3萬餘平方米。大雄寶殿（1013年），大殿面闊、進深皆五間，斗拱、下昂的作法，拼合柱作法，這在現存諸多宋代建築遺物中是難得的。天花板藻井和平棋、平闇也是非常珍貴的宋代遺物。
