Old kenton, Newcastle upon Tyne.
218-25 - 02 -18.
Kenton contains a wide range of residential areas and developments. These residential areas range from Council housing estates to modern middle class new-builds and privately owned residential estates. In North Kenton and Kenton Bar, the housing is predominantly council owned. Kenton Lane, which runs through the heart of Kenton, contains traditional 1930's housing to both sides of the road, with more affluent households lining the streets behind. Kenton Road and the streets leading onwards, (Montagu Avenue, Kenton Avenue, Briardene Crescent, Beechcroft Avenue, Darwin Crescent, Arlington Avenue, Wyndham Avenue) that border Gosforth, are where the most affluent households and impressive properties can be found.

Newcastle Sport
St James’ Park is a seated stadium in Newcastle upon Tyne and is the home of Premier League club Newcastle United F.C. It has a seating capacity of 52,405 and has been the home ground of Newcastle United since 1892, being used for football since 1880. Throughout its time, the desire for expansion has caused a lot of conflict with the local residents and the local council and this led to proposals to move at least twice in the late 1960s, as well as a controversial 1995 proposed move to nearby Leazes Park, which never happened.
The famous football legends and Newcastle’s own are……..
Alan Shearer was born in Gosforth in 1970 and became an incredible footballer who was loved by the whole of Newcastle. After his football career, he became a successful manager for Newcastle United as well as a TV Pundit. Newcastle United paid a whopping £15million for him in 1996, making him the world’s most expensive footballer at the time.
Peter Beardsley was born in Newcastle in 1961 and became a successful footballer for Newcastle United as well as a key member of the England squad in his heyday. He was actually signed to NUFC on 3 separate occasions and was awarded an MBE for services to football in 1995.
How did Newcastle get its name?
Newcastle’s name originated from the Castle which is a medieval fortification in Newcastle upon Tyne. It is now one of the most prominent and remaining structures on the site of the Castle Keep with its fortified stone tower, black gate and fortified gatehouse.
Newcastle Culture
Newcastle upon Tyne history is interesting and exciting, it evolved from being a Roman fortress to a shipping centre from the late 18th to the mid 20th century, however, today the cities economy relies on office and retail businesses, becoming a cultural hub for nightlife and social events.
The Byker Wall was designed by Ralph Erskine during one of the cities development projects during the 1960s and is now listed by UNESCO as one of the outstanding buildings of the 20th century.
Modern-day Newcastle is full of cultural attractions and monuments that entice people in the UK and abroad to visit the city. Outside London, Newcastle has the second highest number of listed buildings in England, so is definitely a place to add to your visiting list.
Over the last 15 years, Newcastle’s Quayside has been redeveloped alongside the south side of the river development, and this has turned the area into one of the most stunning city urban landscapes in the world and is one to see if you can.
Newcastle is best known for the locals, “Geordies”, from their distinct character and Geordie dialect. The accent is difficult to understand at first but we can guarantee, you’ll soon get into the swing of it. Did you know that “Geordie” is recognised as a separate dialect from standard English? Geordies are known to be friendly and very sociable, nights out in Newcastle will certainly keep you entertained, with a wide selection of bars and clubs dotted around the compact city centre.
Another interesting fact, did you know that Newcastle was voted the 7th best night out in the world by Weissman Travel?
Newcastle Brown Ale is a beverage that will give you fond memories of Newcastle if you have ever been on a night out in the city. It is a brown ale, originally produced in Newcastle upon Tyne, however, it is now brewed by Heineken at the Zoeterwoude Brewery in Holland. It was launched in 1927 by Colonel Jim Porter after three years of development.
