Bereits zum zweiten Mal fand die Gin@Tyrol Night in der Bar Centrale und im Das Schindler statt. 33 verschiedene Gin-Sorten und 66 Filler galt es zu verkosten und nebenbei wurde den Gästen mit jeder Menge Showacts eingeheizt.

Part of the IGE Eastern Alps steam charter in September. I started at Verona, then followed to Trieste. Next day after a fantastic early morning coastal climb from Trieste Centrale, the special traversed the Slovenian Alps on the Bohinj Railway and continued from Jesenice to the Slovenian capital Ljubljana. After an overnight stay and exploring the city, the train departed at noon towards Maribor and the Austrian border.
Steam engines in use were FS 685.196, 728.022, SZ 33-037, 06-018 and ÖBB 52.1227. On the second day due to fire hazard a GM-EMD licensed Reagan class 664 diesel took over for a bit, the following day part of the trip had to be diesel-hauled due to a mechanical defect.

Day 1 - Board the splendid Wagons-Lits carriages of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express at Venice Santa Lucia station. Your steward will show you to your private cabin and will attend you throughout your journey.
After you have settled in it will soon be time to enjoy a three-course lunch in one of the beautifully restored restaurant cars. Spend the afternoon relaxing in the comfort of your cabin gazing at the beautiful passing scenery of the Italian Dolomites and the Swiss Alps, or chatting with fellow travellers in the Bar Car. Afternoon tea is served in your cabin.
Time for dinner. Although not a prerequisite, black-tie certainly adds to the sense of occasion and atmosphere on board. Sip an aperitif in the Bar Car, listening to the sounds of the baby grand piano before taking your seat in another of the magnificent restaurant cars. A leisurely four-course dinner is served, prepared on board by our skilled French chefs. After dinner you may want to linger in the Bar and when you are ready, retire to your cabin which has now been transformed into a cosy bedroom.
Day 2 - Breakfast is served in your cabin by your steward at a time to suit you. The train pulls into Paris Gare de l'Est and halts for 40 minutes. Take this opportunity to stretch your legs along the platform and watch the bustling activity; passengers boarding, chefs choosing produce for brunch, Parisians coming and going. A delicious brunch is served in the restaurant cars as you travel on towards the French coast for the Channel crossing.
Join the cream and umber carriages of the British Pullman for the journey to London. Afternoon High Tea, accompanied by a glass of champagne, is served to you at your table and you watch the gentle scenery of Kent pass by. Suddenly, you are drawing into London Victoria station.
It may be the end of your journey but the memories will last a lifetime.
