Taipei is a hidden nightlife gem in East Asia, I had no idea prior to visiting Taipei of its excellent bars and massive nightclubs. I recommend you start your evening with a few drinks, a game of jenga at ONTAP, a laid back pub where you can meet many expats and English speaking Taiwanese locals. Another great bar is FRANK Taipei on top of the ATT4Fun party building with mesmerizing views of Taipei 101.
ATT4Fun is the main location for most nightclubs and bars right across the Taipei 101 tower, so make sure to book yourself an AirBnB nearby if you do not like to move around a lot.

One of the coolest events are all-you-can-drink parties at many nightclubs like Babe18, here you pay a fixed fee at the door, often around $25 USD and you'll be able to refill your cup until 4am closing time. Also, the music at many nightclubs is fantastic, lots of EDM and house DJ's.
Another great lounge is 1001 Nights where you can enjoy odd flavoured shishas and laid back atmosphere. I ordered the bizarre Banana-Gum flavour which was highly enjoyable. Make sure to check their events listings on their Facebook page.
OMNI is the largest nightclub in Taipei with a massive dancefloor, solid EDM and an incredible light system, OMNI is open until 4:30am and a great place to meet the locals. OMNI has a young crowd, bottle service, although the entrance can be expensive, this place is worth every penny.
Another great nightclub for halloween is Elektro, one of the most popular nightclubs at ATT4Fun. As you can tell from my photos, I visited Taipei during the halloween weekend. This is a compilation of my 2 trips to Taiwan, end of September and end of October.
VIBE and PONG are special nightclubs where you can play digital beer pong with friends, a date or the locals. It is a great way to socialize and interact, just download the App on your phone and have a fun beer pong match off in the middle of the nightclub.
KOR Taipei is located right next to OMNI, Kor is a great club if you are NOT into EDM. At KOR you can enjoy hiphop, R&B and rap music. Sadly, there isn't a dance floor but definitely a great place to socialize.
End your night in Taipei at Haidilao, a highend Chinese hot pot restaurant open until 4am, my Taiwanese friends took me here to experience delicious Chinese dishes, my favorite being the water lotus stems, I recommend going easy on the spicy level, it could be a painful aftermath. Alternatively, karaoke it up at Partyworld located right next to OMNI nightclub to continue your nightlife adventure and show off your singing skills in a large private karaoke room.

Department Store Makeover
Departments stores are getting ready for summer by seeking to appeal to younger shoppers. In Taipei’s Xinyi District, a department store has contrasting themes to its first level basement. On one side is a nighttime disco type environment and on the other is a more typical, brighter setting. Another department store has planned a special dessert section which has boosted sales of cool summertime treats.
Government clamps down on Chinese ad in Taipei
Beijing’s state-run China Central Television has been forced to remove an outdoor ad in Taipei after airing it without receiving prior approval. The ad rankled Taipei pedestrians, who particularly took issue with the name of the program being advertised: “Trust in China.” China has been engaging in what some see as “United Front” tactics in Taiwan. The latest move was a big screen ad on a busy street corner in Taipei for a new CCTV program. Its closing frame highlighting the program’s name – “Trust in China” – was not appreciated by passers-by. Any Chinese program or ad broadcast in Taiwan must first be approved by the Ministry of Culture, and in this case, the ad violated the law. Chiu Chui-chengMainland Affairs Council Spokesman The new program has yet to be approved, so related ads are illegal. The Culture Ministry and our Council will both handle this according to the law. We have already notified the company broadcasting the ad to pull it.Ko Wen-jeTaipei MayorIt’s not likely that we can completely ban all of (China’s) ads, but there should be equal treatment and dignity, which means that if they can run ads here without undergoing a review, then Taiwan should be able to do the same in China. CCTV pulled the ad today, and the Central Motion Picture Co., which leases the building that screened the ad, and the ad company that brokered the deal will be fined.

SUMMARY
=======
Taipei (; Mandarin: [tʰǎipèi]; Hokkien POJ: Tâi-pak), officially known as Taipei City, is the capital and a special municipality of Taiwan (officially the Republic of China, ROC). Located in the northern part of the Island of Taiwan, Taipei City is an enclave of the municipality of New Taipei City that sits about 25 km (16 mi) southwest of the northern port city Keelung. Most of the city is located in the Taipei Basin, an ancient lakebed. The basin is bounded by the relatively narrow valleys of the Keelung and Xindian rivers, which join to form the Tamsui River along the city's western border. The city proper is home to an estimated population of 2,704,810 (2015), forming the core part of the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area, which includes the nearby cities of New Taipei and Keelung with a population of 7,047,559, the 40th most-populous urban area in the world—roughly one-third of Taiwanese citizens live in the metro district. The name Taipei can refer either to the whole metropolitan area or the city proper.
Taipei is the political, economic, educational, and cultural center of Taiwan and one of the major hubs in East Asia. Considered to be a global city and rated as an Alpha City by GaWC, Taipei is part of a major high-tech industrial area. Railways, high-speed rail, highways, airports, and bus lines connect Taipei with all parts of the island. The city is served by two airports – Songshan and Taoyuan. Taipei is home to various world-famous architectural or cultural landmarks, which include Taipei 101, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Dalongdong Baoan Temple, Hsing Tian Kong, Lungshan Temple of Manka, National Palace Museum, Presidential Office Building, Taipei Guest House, Ximending, and several night markets dispersed throughout the city. Natural features such as Maokong, Yangmingshan, and hot springs are also well known to international visitors.
In English-language news reports the name Taipei often serves as a synecdoche referring to central government of Taiwan. Due to the ambiguous political status of Taiwan internationally, the term Chinese Taipei is also frequently pressed into service as a synonym for the entire country, as when Taiwan's governmental representatives participate in international organizations or Taiwan's athletes participate in international sporting events.

Mothur MiSeq SOP Video Tutorial – Part 1/14, WTH is Mothur
Mothur, introduced in the year 2009, has become one of the most popular tools in microbiome analysis software, with more than 6000 citations from various different research. It is an “open-source, platform independent and community-supported software”, providing an ease of use, but comprehensible analysis platform for many scientists throughout the globe.
Thus, this video series hopes to establish a basic idea of what is Mothur and try to guide the audience through a process of analysing a sample community using the Mothur program.
