Yartung festival in Upper Mustang, Nepal
Mustang is a forbidden Buddhist kingdom located in the isolated region of Kali Gandaki Valley in north-central Nepal. Upper Mustang is also a part of Mustang Kingdom and is differentiated by only one fact – the visit of foreign tourists is regulated in the Upper Mustang area due to its proximity to sensitive Tibetan border. Life in Mustang is full of hardships but the beauty of the natural landscape is what draws tourists from all over the world to this land.Mustang is a great place for trekking expeditions because much of the arid plateau area of this place is unexplored and spectacular. Hundreds of years old caves and monasteries along with interesting festivals of Tiji and Yartung have attracted more than 1000 trekkers from western countries to Mustang every year. Trekking in Mustang can be an incredible experience if you follow some guidelines that can safeguard you from getting into any kind of trouble.

The new Constitution of Nepal, adopted on 20 September 2015, provides for the division of the country into seven (7) Provinces. These provinces will be formed by grouping the existing districts; two districts, however, are to be split between two provinces. Each district has local units has local units, including four metropolises, 13 sub-metropolises, 246 municipal councils and 481 village councils. According to Article 295 (2), the provinces shall be named by 2/3 vote of the respective province's legislature.
The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal (Nepali: सङ्घीय लोकतान्त्रिक गणतन्त्र नेपाल Sanghiya Loktāntrik Ganatantra Nepāl), is a landlocked central Himalayan country in South Asia. It has a population of 26.4 million and is the 93rd largest country by area.Bordering China in the north and India in the south, east, and west, it is the largest sovereign Himalayan state. Nepal does not border Bangladesh, which is located within only 27 km (17 mi) of its southeastern tip. It neither borders Bhutan due to the Indian state of Sikkim being located in between. Nepal has a diverse geography, including fertile plains, subalpine forested hills, and eight of the world's ten tallest mountains, including Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. Kathmandu is the nation's capital and largest city. It is a multiethnic nation with Nepali as the official language.
The territory of Nepal has a recorded history since the Neolithic age. The name Nepal is first recorded in texts from the Vedic Age, the era which founded Hinduism, the predominant religion of the country. In the middle of the first millennium BCE, Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, was born in southern Nepal. Parts of northern Nepal were intertwined with the culture of Tibet. The Kathmandu Valley in central Nepal became known as Nepal proper because of its complex urban civilization. It was the seat of the prosperous Newar confederacy known as Nepal Mandala. The Himalayan branch of the ancient Silk Road was dominated by the valley's traders. The cosmopolitan region developed distinct traditional art and architecture. By the 18th century, the Gorkha Kingdom achieved the unification of Nepal. The Shah dynasty established the Kingdom of Nepal and later formed an alliance with the British Empire, under its Rana dynasty of premiers. The country was never colonized but served as a buffer state between Imperial China and Colonial India In the 20th century, Nepal ended its isolation and forged strong ties with regional powers. Parliamentary democracy was introduced in 1951, but was twice suspended by Nepalese monarchs in 1960 and 2005. The Nepalese Civil War resulted in the proclamation of a republic in 2008, ending the reign of the world's last Hindu monarchy.
Modern Nepal is a federal secular parliamentary republic. It has seven states. Nepal is a developing nation, ranking 144th on the Human Development Index (HDI) in 2016. The country struggles with the transition from a monarchy to a republic. It also suffers from high levels of hunger and poverty. Despite these challenges, Nepal is making steady progress, with the government declaring its commitment to elevate the nation from least developed country status by 2022. Nepal also has a vast potential to generate hydropower for export.

MUSTANG PEOPLE

Yartung Horse Race Festival 2018 (Mustang,Nepal)
The yartung festival in lower mustang is celebrated all over mustang and is especially celebrated in Muktinath during August full moon day every year. It is a three/four day celebration and is celebrated with horse races, drinking and dancing by local Muktinath and Thakali people. During the Three/four days celebrations, the king;s (local king) activity take place on the first, the lamas and monks on the second and the local people’s on the third. The most attractive occasion of this festival is the horse race contest by man and women. In their language, yartung means the end of the summer; Meal means festivals or fair; Yarutng meal means a festival to send off summer. So, that time, they have finished harvesting the crops and they have stored the cereal at home. In fact, this festival is for making offerings to Bodhisattva and to receive the blessing s form the village chief as well as from respectable senior citizens for an auspicious journey.
