1) Bara Kaman
Bara Kaman is the unfinished mausoleum of Ali Adil Shah II in Bijapur, Karnataka, India.
Ali Adil Shah of the Adil Shahi dynasty wanted to build a mausoleum of unmatched architectural quality. It was planned that twelve arches would be placed vertically as well as horizontally surrounding the tomb of Ali Adil Shah. However, for unknown reasons the work on the structure was left incomplete only two arches were raised vertically. Rumor has it that the construction of the mausoleum was stopped because once completed its shadow would touch the Gol Gumbaz. Nowadays the remains of the twelve horizontally placed arches can still be seen. The architect of Bara Kaman was Malik Sandal. The structure has raised walls in concentric arches. After the arches were erected, the inner arches were toppled, leaving only the outermost arch. No cement was used, instead iron rings were used to hold the stones together.
2) Jama Masjid
Jama Masjid of Bijapur is a mosque in the Indian state of Karnataka. It was built by Ali Adil Shah I (1558-1580) in the year 1578 after the victory over Vijaya Nagara at the Battle of Rakkasagi – Tangadagi in Talikoti in 1565.
Also known as both Jamiya Masjid and Jumma Masjid, the mosque is one of the largest mosques in South India. Set in a perfect square of 1,16,300 sq. ft. 2250 to 2500 persons can offer prayers at a stretch. The Central Mihrab on the western wall is inscribed with lines from the Quran.
3) Jahan Bagum Tomb
An unfinished mausoleum of Jahan Begum, the wife of Muhammad Adil Shah, is located in Ainapur around 4km from Bijapur town in the state of Karnataka. The tomb is ruined with time. This historical tomb was planned to be built away from Gol Gumbaj, the tomb of Muhammad Adil Shah. The tomb has a mystical history related to its incomplete structure. The unfinished part of the tomb gives it a more beautiful and attractive look. The ruins have four corner towers out of which only first few storeys survive now. There are three openings for three arches on each side in between the corner towers. The turrets and the inner chamber with three arches on all four sides were completed. To the right of the tomb is a mosque constructed. There is a garden palace located on a short distance from the tomb of Jahan Begum. It is ruined as well but still gives a spectacular architectural beauty.
