Barberton Makhonjwa Geotrail - Introduction
The Barberton Makhonjwa Geotrail in Mpumalanga, South Africa is a 37km scenic, self drive route between Barberton and Swaziland that takes you more than 3 billion years into the past. Godrich 4x4 Adventure Club had the opportunity to spent 2 nights in the Barberton mountains from 17-19 November 2017. With the elevation above sea level ranging from 1500m to over 2000m, we were constantly given amazing views of the wild west of South Africa.
Our guide for the weekend was geologist Roelf le Roux, with over 30 years experience working in the area he showed us all the best sights and told us all about the rich history of the area, its inhabitants and what is currently happening there. We visited Sheba mine, Eureka City, Golden Quarry and Fairview Mine as well as some breath taking lookout points.
Thanks to all those whom attended, we look forward to the next trip in 2018!
