Thin Places of Ynys Enlli
In spite of the treacherous 1.9 mile crossing Ynys Enlli was the third most popular Pilgrimage of medieval times in the British Isles. The whole island could be considered a thin place. In Celtic Spirituality a thin place is where Divine Presence is immediately realized.
In this video students of WSP 972 Pilgrimage: Exploring Celtic Sites with Christian Faith share the thin places they discovered on Ynys Enlli during their course there.
Ynys Enlli is known in English as Bardsey Island and is located just north of Aberdaron, Wales, UK.

Bardsey Island (Welsh: Ynys Enlli), known as the legendary Island of 20,000 Saints, lies 1.9 miles (3.1 km) off the Llŷn Peninsula in the Welsh county of Gwynedd.[2] The Welsh name means The Island in the Currents, although its English name refers to the Island of the Bards,[3] or possibly the island of the Viking chieftain, Barda.

High speed car journey down A499 and on to Nant Gwrtheyrn (Lleyn Peninsula, North Wales, UK)
A car journey down part of the Lleyn Peninsula in North Wales to the 'secret' land-locked and sea-locked little valley of Nant Gwrtheyrn on a clear, sunny summer's morning on 28th August 2013. An enjoyable way to learn how to get there. Nant Gwrtheyrn is Wales's National Welsh Language Centre, where courses can be taken, amidst spectacular coastal and mountain scenery with wonderful walks. All visitors are welcome, and there is a cafe and gift shop there too.
Ynys Enlli / Bardsey Island
Mae Ynys Enlli'n ynys llawn hanes sydd wastad wedi bod dan orchudd dirgelwch. Credir bod pobl wedi trigo ar yr ynys ers y Cyfnod Mesolithig dros 8,000 o flynyddoedd yn ôl, ac mae rhai'n dal i fyw arni hyd heddiw. Ers yr oesoedd canol cynnar y mae cymunedau eglwysig wedi ymweld â'r ynys ac ymgartrefi arni, gan ei throi'n ganolfan pererindod ac encil. Dywedir bod tair pererindod i Enlli gyfwerth ag un i Rufain; canmoliaeth fawr sy'n dal i ddenu cymunedau amrywiol i'r ynys o bedwar ban byd. Cafodd y goleudy, un o dirnodau Enlli, ei adeiladu yn y 19fed ganrif, ac y mae'n parhau fel cymorth i forwyr sy'n hwylio dros Fôr Iwerddon heddiw. Yn anffodus, y mae nifer o safleoedd archeolegol yr ynys o dan fygythiad erydiad arfordirol a achosir gan newid yn yr hinsawdd. Bydd CHERISH, ynghyd â'n partneriaid, yn monitro'r safleoedd hyn drwy gydol y prosiect i ganfod unrhyw newidiadau a achosir gan gynnydd mewn erydiad arfordirol a stormydd.
***************
Ynys Enlli (Bardsey Island) is an island steeped in history and has forever been shrouded in mystery and legend. The island is thought to have been settled as far back as the Mesolithic period over 8,000 years ago and continues to be a home for people today. Since the early medieval period ecclesiastical communities have visited and settled on the island as a place of pilgrimage and retreat. It is said that that three pilgrimages to Ynys Enlli is equivalent to one to Rome, a huge accolade and one that continues to attract different communities to the island from across the globe. The lighthouse, a landmark of Ynys Enlli, was constructed in the 19th century and continues to act as a crucial light to mariners navigating the Irish Sea to this day.

Wigwam® Holidays Llyn Peninsula - Glamping in North Wales
Situated on the Llŷn Peninsula, in a peaceful rural location, surrounded by nature, with views of the nearby Garn Fadryn mountain.
Set in an ideal location for walking and exploring beautiful Llŷn. Within the grounds, there is a private large coarse fishing lake, well stocked with carp.
The picturesque Porthdinllaen beach is just a short distance away, as is the beach of Porth Oer or Whistling Sands, so called because of the round grains of sand squeak when walked upon.
For those with a love of the sea, a trip to Bardsey Island, reputed the home of twenty thousand saints, is an exciting way to appreciate the coastline. Within easy reach are the towns of Aberdaron, Abersoch, Pwllheli, Criccieth with its castle perched almost on the beach or Porthmadog home of the famous Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Steam Railways, with Portmeirion the famous Italian village nearby.
Horse riding stables under one mile away. Ideal for golf at Morfa Nefyn, where the well known Ty Coch pub is situated on the beach (3 miles).
Lon Goed northbound walk (Chwilog, near Pwllheli, Wales, UK)
On the A497 road between Llanystumdwy and Chwillog, an old 'green lane' heads north. You can trace it's route on detailed maps but you'd miss it unless you knew what to look for. But why not have a stroll down this fascinating tree-lined avenue, which stretches for 8km near Llanystumdwy, Gwynedd.
Built in 1820 as a cart road to carry limestone to the Mostyn Estate, the ancient road that reached inland from the southern coast through rural farmland has since become an icon in the local area. The Welsh poet, R Williams Parry, wrote his famous Eifionydd poem about it.
My time lapse film shows it's character, state and degree of continuity during January 2011, starting by the A497 and heading north. I've also added a few shots of July 2009 to show the summer contrast. Most of the route is either a track or a public footpath. Parts are better recognised by walkers than others. Being tree-lined, it makes a great walk on hot summer days where shelter is desired. It is also likely to be a quiet walk. Some sections can get muddy in winter, as you see. You can see part of the route highlighted on an aerial photo here, although my time lapse film continues further north too:
For techno people, I took one still photo every 10 paces or so. of course it slowed me down but not unduly so if the main purpose of the visit was to do the walk itself. Taking a set of still images also enabled me to 'ignore' a few physical barriers along the route (gates, walls etc).
