Brown Bear Pit - Bern (Switzerland)
The Bärengraben, or Bear Pit, is a tourist attraction in the Swiss capital city of Bern. It is a bear pit, or enclosure housing bears, situated at the eastern edge of the old city of Bern, next to the Nydeggbrücke and the River Aar. Although still in use, the Bärengraben has been supplemented since 2009 by the adjacent BärenPark, a larger and more natural enclosure alongside the River Aar.[1]
The Bärengraben and BärenPark are administered as a geographically discrete part of the city's Dählhölzli Zoo. The Bärengraben is a Swiss heritage site of national significance, and is of particular significance in Bern because the bear is a symbol of both the city and surrounding canton, and is featured in their coat of arms.

The Bears at BärenPark in Bern, Switzerland
Some footage that I took during our family trip to Switzerland in August 2010. All of the editing was done in iMovie.
The music is a song by Pat Metheny called Is This America.
The BearPark (BärenPark) in Bern opened officially on October 22nd, 2009. For the public, however, it was opened three days later.
The bears of Bern now live in a 6000 m2 park along the banks of the River Aare. They can still access the large bear pit, now a historic monument. The small bear pit is open to the public and can be rented for events. The Bearpark shop can be reached via the small bear pit.

This is a small tour through Bern by foot. It start with the famous Rosengarten (rose garden) in Bern, followed by the Bärenpark (bear park), Nydeggbrücke (Nydegg bridge), the Berner Matte (Bern Matte), climbing up the stairs to the Berner Münster (Bern Minster) with a short visit inside and listening to the organs playing and finally a short visit of the Martin Krebs Galery with a deep inside view of Bewegliche Eisenfiguren (moving iron figures) which are an amazing moving mechanical master pieces of art as you probably have never seen before. These iron figures were welded together from different pieces that were used in agriculture maybe 30-50 years ago or taken from scrab yards and find now their re-use and re-invention in these perfectly shaped and orchestrated master pieces of mechanical art with precision technique made in Switzerland.
The video is a little bit shaky due to walking activity.

The final leg of our Switzerland trip in summer 2018!
Man it took a while to get around to this last edit! The trip was a lot of fun. Switzerland is for sure as expensive as everyone says. Trains were cool; I had this vision that I would be reading on the train a lot more than I did...like some old movie or something.
If I ever go back, it'll probably be to go skiing or snowboarding. Now to just learn how to ski or snowboard...

Bears bathing in the Bear Park, Bern (Switzerland)
Bears are the totemic animals of Bern (Switzerland), the symbolic representation of the city's and of the Bern state's community of people from at least the early 13th century. The city has been keeping live bears in the Bärengraben (Bear Pit) for at least 550 years. The Bear Pit is a local attraction, well known within and beyond the borders of Switzerland. Since 2009 the Bärengraben was extended to, and superseded by a 6,000 square meters park, the Bärenpark (Bear Park), that provides bears with ample space to wander around, from the original pit to the river Aar waters. Bears can climb, play or withdraw as they wish in the green hilly park, or bathe in the Bear Bath section of the river. Visitors can follobw the bears' motions in the new park, watch them bathing in the Bear Bath, and witness their feeding, all this from a safe and unobtrusive distance.
