Underground Bare Knuckle Boxing in the UK
Subscribe to FIGHTLAND:
Once regarded as something that happens exclusively in Guy Ritchie films and on gypsy sites, bare knuckle boxing is fast becoming a thriving scene in the UK -- the ultimate British bloodsport.
When Clive Martin embeds with the bare knuckle boxing elite, what he discovers is not dissimilar to Fight Club; IT technicians, builders, lifestyle coaches and even a solicitor, all throwing their unprotected fists into each other's faces. It's a subculture of honour, pride and violence.
As the UK prepares to play host to the first US vs UK bare knuckle title fight in 150 years -- the biggest event the scene has known since it went underground in the 19th Century -- Clive tries to find out if violence is a cause or effect for these angry young men.

Anthony Gormleys Another place
A visit to the awesome Anthony Gormleys Another Place in Crosby,Liverpool.
There are 100 male statues by Antony Gormley made from cast iron, stretching for 1.5 mi. along the estuary.
Another Place was first exhibited on the beach of Cuxhaven, Germany, in 1997 followed by Stavanger in Norway and De Panne in Belgium. It was the subject of much controversy in Merseyside, although many people considered the figures to be beautiful pieces of art, and tourism in the local area increased.
Originally, the statues were due to be relocated in November 2007. Those who use the beach for watersports were among the most vocal in their resistance to the figures remaining, citing safety concerns. The coastguard also expressed safety concerns, fearing that tourists could become stuck in soft sand and get cut off by the tide. Conservationists, meanwhile, complained that bird-feeding areas had been compromised by the increased tourist traffic. Art lovers and local businesses, on the other hand, lobbied for the statues to stay. Gormley himself supported the proposal to keep the statues at Crosby Beach, saying the location was ideal.

In October 2006, the local council refused to give permission for the statues to stay, prompting Gormley to criticise what he called Britain's risk-averse culture. He stated, When I have been down on the beach myself, the majority of people have been intrigued, amused, sometimes very moved. The company Another Place Ltd was established to campaign for the figures' permanent installation and appealed the council's decision.
