Now displayed at Barnet Museum, in this video Keith West discusses his painting 'The Victory of Edward IV at Barnet, 1471'
The painting depicts the victorious King Edward IV presented with proof of the deaths during the battle of Richard Neville, known to history as Warwick the Kingmaker, and his brother Lord Montagu. Montagu was killed during the battle and Warwick, realising the battle was lost, as he tried to flee. An attendant returns the crown to Edward watched by the King’s brother Richard Duke of Gloucester. The deposed King Henry VI, King Edward’s prisoner, stands behind the bodies of the Neville brothers and he and a Benedictine monk offer prayers for their souls. Lord Hastings, commander of Edward’s left flank stands opposite the restored king and behind Hastings, Edward’s other brother George Duke of Clarence.

An imaginary journey from London to Barnet during the late 1800's
Historic ‘healing’ well of Barnet restored by council
We teamed up with Historic England to restore the historic Barnet Physic Well, which was thought to have healing powers in years gone by. This week, the finished project was officially unveiled!
The esteemed diarist Samuel Pepys made the pilgrimage to Barnet in 1664 ‘to see the Wells’. He drank five glasses of well water before departing, pleased to see his ‘waters working at least seven or eight times upon the road’ home.
The well will now be managed by Barnet Museum. Contact them on 020 8440 8066 if you’d like to arrange a visit.

Community Event - Barnet Medieval Festival
Barnet Medieval Festival organised by Barnet Museum took place in High Barnet and it was it excellent, fun filled and educational. The event had everything from stalls and music to poetry and battle reenactments. It was an amazing day out for everyone.
