barossa goldfields
The Barossa Goldfields Historical Society celebrates the unique Barossa Valley Gold Rush in 1868, with a great family fun day held on the last day of September each year. Our video shows highlights of the greeat day - so be sure to bring the family to the Open Day this Sunday September 25 to relive the days when gold was more important than wine in South Australia's iconic Barossa Valley!
Postcards features Lavender Federation Walking Trail
Channel 9 in South Australia ran a fantastic tourism information program called Postcards. The dedicated team produced over 3,000 episodes in the 16 years it ran. They had a fantastic one hour episode to finish off on the 20th Nov 2012. It was a great celebration of some of thier work and at the same time - a very sad time for most South Australians. We wish Keith, Ron, Lisa and the Postcards team all the very best and say THANK YOU FROM S.A.!!!!
One of thier episodes featured the Lavender Federation Walking Trail, in 2006 and they have kindly allowed us to use it to promote our trail. We hope it also promotes the memory of the fantastic work they did for SA too.
Welcome to the Lavender Federation Walking Trail, a linear walking trail of 152 kilometres through diverse countryside traversing the eastern flanks of the Mt Lofty Ranges. The trail begins at Murray Bridge and takes a serpentine course past Truro at the northern gateway of the Barossa Valley.
The Lavender Federation Trail is named in honour of the late Terry Lavender OAM, the architect of the trail and the first chairman of South Australian Recreation Trails Incorporated (SARTI).
It is recommended that walkers refer to the detailed Lavender Federation Trail maps available from outdoor stores or local Visitor Information Centres.
The trail is in the Murraylands, Adelaide Hills and Barossa fire ban districts and is suitable for walking mainly between March and November or cooler days outside this period.
Panning for Gold, Para Wirra National Park.
The South Para River runs through the Barossa Goldfields and Para Wirra National Park (SA). The creek is flowing this time of the year (June) and a great place to try one's luck at panning for Gold. None was found on this occasion but all the more reason to return to this beautiful setting to try our luck again.

BAROSSA AND CLARE VALLEYS SOUTH AUSTRALIA PT 2 OF 2
The Clare Valley is one of Australia's oldest and most famous wine regions, and also one of the most scenic, presenting visitors with a series of small intimate valleys and magnificent views. Settlers from England, Ireland and Poland first moved into the region during the 1840's, producing a rich heritage of architecture and villages, which remain largely intact. Many of these buildings now accommodate the generous offering of guesthouses, premium restaurants and galleries. Vineyards were planted alongside those first villages and winemaking has continued ever since. The Barossa Valley is a major wine-producing region and tourist destination of South Australia, located 60 km northeast of Adelaide. The three major towns of the Barossa each have a distinctive personality. Tanunda is generally recognised as the most German of the three with long-standing traditions dating back to the 1840s when the first German settlers arrived in the area. The German influence survives to this day (see Barossa Deutsch). Angaston, in contrast, is considered the English town as it was settled predominantly by Cornish miners and others from Britain. The third town, Nuriootpa, was influenced by both the German and British settlers, and today is the commercial hub of the Barossa where most of the larger stores are located. WIKIPEDIA

Kuitpo Forrest 03/08/2010
Ralph, Kanada and I went for a walk through Jupiter Creek Goldfields and then out to Kuitpo Forrest.
We've had a LOT of rain recently and I thought I would have a look at how the creeks were flowing.
This is the first walk in the scrub we've done since the girls died, it was a bit sad with only the boys.
Ralph is finding it harder to get around these days, but for a 14 year old dog he did pretty well.

EP16 | BIG TARGET in an ANCIENT GOLD creek using a METAL DETECTOR
Hi Team,
Just thought to share this with you all, and I thank you all for continuing to come back and support my channel with all of your wonderful comments.
In the video’s its just about capturing the events that unfold on our journey through our gold detecting, and the best part about that is we just never know what the day will bring. Certainly we know excitement just from being out there. But the joys of finding gold no matter what the size is something we just never get back and need to share these moment.
This video captures some great gold and metal detecting digs along with prospecting for gold with panning in an old ancient creek system. The creek was formed thousands of years ago then covered up by land movement and eventually the ground was opened up again during the last 350 to 450 years of the weathering cycle again. And finally worked by the Old Miners in the Mid to Late 1800's

Merredin and The Railway
Merredin is a town in Western Australia, located in the Central Wheatbelt roughly midway between Perth and Kalgoorlie, on Route 94, Great Eastern Highway. It is located on the route of the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme, and as a result is also on the Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail.
It is connected by public transport to Perth via Transwa Prospector and MerredinLink rail services .
The agricultural land around Merredin produces 40% of Western Australia’s wheat quota. As a focal point for the region, Merredin’s local bulk handling co-operative receives and processes in excess of a million tonnes of grain every year. The silos at the train facilities to the west of the main town are the biggest of their type in the southern hemisphere.
Merredin is located on the Eastern Goldfields Railway.
Merredin serves as the middle stop of the Prospector train.

LIFE IN A STORM DRAIN TUNNEL - Jah Luv Bum day 1
Homeless Journey in Southwest California finds Jan Luv Bum in a storm drain tunnel - not a suitable home, as flood waters were the likely reason the tunnel was half hurried in the sand. This is not an ideal home for a spiritual retreat either.
