Kaesler Wines Old Vine Shiraz - Barossa Valley - South Australia
The Old Vine Barossa shiraz is one of the most important wines in the Kaesler Wines stable – and for good reason. It’s our datum wine, our very first production and is sourced from some of the finest vines in our Kaesler pantheon.
If you can resist the brooding charms of the crimson red colour, blackberries, plums and delicate touch of pine, Old Vine is brilliant to cellar and allow to develop. With age, the lingering tannins and subtle oak deepen the palate profile. If needs must, crack open and decant and tuck in with roast lamb and all the trimmings.
If one glass (inevitably) turns into a bottle, you can book to stay at one of cottages and walk any after effects off the next day with a vineyard tour. So jump on the freeway and head to the Barossa. Old Vine will be waiting.

*Cellar Door - Open 7 days a week.

Description
Tscharke Wines
Story has it that the Tscharke Family are one of the original settling families in the Barossa, arriving in the mid-1800s. The family quickly established a mixed farming business including producing grapes for on-selling. Located in South Australia’s iconic Barossa Valley the Tscharke family vineyards were originally planted to the classic varietals of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mataro and Grenache. The vineyards are sited on the Barossa’s beautiful and gently rugged western ridge in the sub appellations of Seppeltsfield and Marananga. Being a very proud 6th generation vigneron & viticulturist and a 1st generation winemaker Damien Tscharke has taken both the vineyards and winemaking to new levels. Being focused on sustainability from the soil up, the vineyards were further developed to include old European grape varietals new to Australian viticulture

Robert Parker Tasting Note
Deep garnet-purple in color and scented of cassis, crushed blackberries and star anise with hints of sauteed herbs and black earth, the 2012 Shiraz is a medium-bodied wine with plenty of earth and spice-laced black fruits supported by medium levels of grainy tannins and lively acid. It finishes long. Drink it now to 2018. Score - 90. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, erobertparker.com, May 2014)
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Complex, intense, slightly spicy, black cherry puree nose with some cedary mocha-chocolate notes. Fairly dry, medium-full bodied, solid, extracty, spicy, intense, ripe cherry-plum puree flavours with a lingering, cedary, high acid, smoky, milk chocolate finish. Has 15.5% alcohol and only 5 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. Wow, this blockbuster is my best buy of the release!

Overlooking the Gulf of St Vincent, Seppelsfield Winery was born from a vision of longevity and continued legacy. While ownership often changed hands, all proprietors share a vision of respecting the estate’s past glory and influence on the nation’s wine industry. Seppelsfield is famed for its Centennial Collection, a true icon that has produced a hundred year old vintage Tawny every year since eighteen seventy-eight- a rare achievement.
