Barrow Creek, Old Telegraph Station, Northern Territory
Barrow Creek Telegraph Station, Northern Territory, Australia 2011
It is definitely worth a stop by Barrow Creek Roadhouse to make a visit to Barrow Creek Telegraph Station Historical Reserve. It is also about the halfway point between Alice Springs and Tennant Creek. The Telegraph Station which opened in the late 19th century ran for about 100 years. You can wander round freely in and out of the different buildings which are in good condition and historical information is displayed too.

Through the Centre - Episode 2 - Barrow Creek Telegraph Station & Davenport Range National Park
In this series we are making our way north to Darwin from Victoria. We could just follow the bitumen but where's the fun in that.
Instead we'll be detouring every chance we get in search of adventure.
In Episode 2 we check out Barrow Creek Telegraph Station and find a suprising peaceful roadside camp beside the Stuart Hwy close to our turnoff to join the Binns track. We have fun tackling a 4 wheel drive short cut into the Iytwelepenty/Davenport Range National Park, where we spend some time exploring the history and beauty of the area.
Join us as we venture offroad, chasing landscapes painted with rich sunset colours and hopefully some beautiful swimming holes.
Get out there and travel Australia, it's amazing.
Also a big thanks to my wife Racheal (AKA - WE SHOOT STUFF PHOTOGRAPHIC SERVICES) for all the photography work. Check out her facebook page or website weshootstuff.com.au

Barrow Creek Hotel, Barrow Creek, NT
Walking into the Barrow Creek Hotel is like stumbling upon an oasis in the desert, particularly if you're thirsty.
There are only a handful of pubs between Alice Springs and Tennant Creek and this is probably the most famous. Largely due to the events that took place July 15, 2001 when a road train pulled up out the front of the hotel in the early hours of the morning with a terrified Joanne Lees.
Lees explained how she had been bound and gagged by a solitary man who had stopped her and her partner Peter Falconio. Falconio had gone to the back of their van and spoke to the man. She heard a loud bang and was attacked. To date Peter Falconio's body has never been found.
In 2015 Bradley John Murdoch was found guilty of his murder but the gruesome story of that stretch of highway continues to live on.

Barrow Creek racecourse, 300 kilometres north of Alice Springs
Today the Barrow Creek race course is overgrown, rusted-out and broken down.
But in its heyday 50 years ago the track, 300 kilometres north of Alice Springs, annually hosted two day jamborees, including racing, camp drafting and various novelty events.
Prior to 1990 Les Pilton was president of the Barrow Creek turf club. These days he owns the Barrow Creek hotel - the only pub in town.
Nathan Coates spoke to Les about a day out at the Barrow Creek races.

Balladonia Telegraph Station - Exerpt from The Eyre Hwy DVD
That building on the bend near Balladonia on the Eyre Highway isn't just another ruin. It is the old Balladonia Telegraph Station, which was a vital link between the West and The East in the late 1800s and early 1900s, before a permanent road was built across the Nullarbor.
